UPDATE: In my OP, I asked what you might tell your kids (say: teenagers) about sex, and the role of a healthy sex life as an adult. Since then I've been considering what I'd say, inspired by becca 's talk. But I had NO IDEA how ever to broach the subject. Well, the Universe smiled, and lobbed me a perfect opportunity. My seventeen year old son is completing his "Family Life" merit badge for Boy Scouts. In it is a requirement for the scout to have a heart to heart conversation with his parents on a few specific topics, one of them being: "Understanding the growing-up process and how the body changes, and making responsible decisions dealing with sex."
My wife went first, and fumbled around a bit how premarital sex clouds your judgement, yada yada. My turn. All of my thoughts just gelled. This is pretty much how it came out: In my upbringing, my parents and my religious education about sex focused on one thing: "premarital sex is bad". That colored my thinking on the whole subject of sex, and it is SO not the whole picture.
Here's what it has taken me many years of my adult life to figure out and to be able to express: Sex is good. Sometimes: sex is great. I personally think that sex is best inside a committed relationship. In fact, sex is a pretty important part of a committed relationship. But whatever you chose, I hope you have a healthy, happy sex life as an adult.
Don't trust how pop-culture depicts sex: movies, porn, and what your friends tell you. That said: there is a lot of GOOD information about sex out there: books, websites, etc. Information about your body and your partner's body. I know you think you "know it all" because you know the basic mechanics; trust me, even if you actively study these topics by seeking out such information, it will still take you years to get a handle on it.
And: wear a condom. That means: you have to go buy condoms. If you aren't man enough to go buy condoms for yourself, you aren't man enough to be having sex. That is awesome, Dan! Glad the opportunity presented itself.

That engine floated a valve a 112 mph at about 2am on the New Jersey Turnpike. At least the laughing cop told me I was doing 112mph. (Note to self: Pay attention to valve springs) THAT engine blew a piston at 125 mph at about 2am on the New Jersey Turnpike. At least I think it was about 125mph - the speedo only goes to 120 and it pinned. Sounds like the Turnpike was your own personal autobahn.

We have to much in common! My first car was a 68 Ford Mustang 302 Fastback 100% GT Acapulco Blue with a white " c" stripe! I remember taking out on some Carolina back roads getting over 100 mph, It rattled so much like it couldn't handle it! Shhh...I wasn't going to mention the rattling. She road like she was on rails! 100mph in an 18 wheeler down Black Mountain. That was you? haha. Seriously, that is absolutely terrifying.

Haha...I suppose I should have clarified that. I can probably count on one hand the times I have driven 100mph and with one exception, they were all when I was incredibly young and stupid with no sense of the value of life. My first car was a '65 Mustang and it just begged for straight, open road. My speeding adventures were almost all out in the country where the biggest risk wasn't the boys in blue but the random deer that decided to cross the road at the wrong time. I have a good friend who has always said, "don't drive faster than you can afford" so these days I keep it with in 10mph of the limit, but speeding down the road with an awesome song blaring is definitely a rush. ...and we're gonna need to hear more about this '65 Mustang... It was sweet. Actually a 64 1/2, pony interior, 289 engine, completely refurbished with original parts except for a '66 gas cap. LOVED that car. Unfortunately, so did my dad so any time I pulled up at the house he would "hear a sound" and have to check it out. This would result in my car in pieces and then he would drive it for a week to "make sure it was good to go". He was a car guy. I eventually figured out he was playing me. So easy to get a ticket in Orange Co. When the 405 is wide open, it just begs for speed. I lived in Huntington Beach for awhile.

I've only been 100mph once, and it was in a compact Prius! The speedometer was still climbing, it hit about 102 before I backed off and it was hardly gnarly. The aero keeps it solid (although a cross wind might have meant a white knuckle moment) It could easily hit 110. A Prius?! Who would have thought...

I only get up to visit my dad about once every 18 months , it a 12 hr drive through a lot of flat open country where you can see for miles this song and 140+ km/hr makes my trip. If they ever clock me I'll probably never drive again. "Any of you girls out there have a didgeridoo?" I had to look that up! Great song and new for me so that is always fun. I don't know that I would speed down the road to it but definitely dance in a smoky bar with my girlfriends to it.

Just one?! Ugh...Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC...too many. Fine. I have driven 100mph more than once listening to this one. Wow, colour me impressed. I'm pretty sure you do not have 100mph speed limit roads over there? Haha...I suppose I should have clarified that. I can probably count on one hand the times I have driven 100mph and with one exception, they were all when I was incredibly young and stupid with no sense of the value of life. I sing and dabble with the guitar and piano when supplied with liquid courage. A music head? haha I like your taste so far. So will you also join us for karaoke in the Commune Lounge in the evenings? Absolutely! Can this lounge have a dance floor too?
