I'm sensing that as well. But if this is in fact the case, which it definitely seems to be more and more, having to take that unilateral action will definitely help ease my conscience that I've "done everything possible." The downside of being Chaotic Good, with a strong Lawful streak when it comes to relationships. OMG! So funny! So nerdy! Most folks when discussing personality in the context of talk therapy rely on the respected Myers-Briggs personality types. cagedtiger is resorting to terminology based on Dungeons and Dragons "character alignment"!!! And -- just as nerdy: a) I caught the reference immediately. b) I'm probably the exact same D&D type!!!

I was wondering if anybody was going to pick up the D&D reference...
As for MBTI, ENFJ all the way. Which drives the wife crazy.

"and I think- maybe- you're going through kind of a midlife crisis right now. You should talk to your therapist about that." - from last night. You are in a midlife crisis. You feel the weight of the empty years, and you don't like how the future looks. Hopefully your therapist can help you figure out why...cough cough.

Some things are better left unknown. Like when people find out you're really good with Excel formulas and macros. Which, if anyone asks, I know nothing about...

"and I think- maybe- you're going through kind of a midlife crisis right now. You should talk to your therapist about that." - from last night. I am not sure you can have a midlife crisis in your early thirties. But she is right - you are going through a crisis. And contrary to what she seems to be insinuating, I think that is a good thing. A midlife crisis tends to happen when somebody gets to a point where they start to suspect they are not getting what they need out of life and if they carry on the way they are they are never going to be really fulfilled or happy. At that point you can either buy yourself a Ferrari and try to bury all those thoughts and feelings, or you can start to make changes and do something about it.

A friend of mine told me for his midlife crisis it would be either two 22 year olds or a Miata. He chose the Miata.

To be perfectly honest, if/ when I get single, I'm planning on buying another sports car. However, it won't be a Ferrari, and it'll be because once upon a time I was worrking towards an SCCA racing license. I like things that are fast. And also out of spite, because my wife thinks these cars are "stupid."

See post above. Besides, the 22 year olds are more expensive.

But too many wheels for me to get really excited about I had a CBR back in my early 20's when I was young and stupid. But I was smart enough to sell it before I moved to the west coast, because I would have died. Terrible Southern California drivers + terrible Southern California roads. I'll get another bike someday, but it's not super high on the list of priorities. S2000, SCUBA refresher, AWD turbo wagon for hauling the bikes, skis, surfboards, kayak, dog, and camping gear.

That is quite a list - you had better start working late! I haven't done sport bikes in a while, but we have a lot of dirt and a lot of twisty hill climbs around here so I have a KTM 690 which is perfect.

That can't be a very fast car... it doesn't warrant a roll cage? ;-) On the drag strip, the rule is something like under a 10-second quarter-mile. I imagine SCCA requires them in all cars? Personally, I love these kinds of toys - when somebody else is paying for them, and I'm the photographer behind a really long lens. But stupidly-expensive, deafeningly-loud, crazy-fast, top-fuel dragsters are my favorites. With funny cars a close second. Especially when I get to shoot from behind the barrier wall at the starting line, and their exhaust blows me over. ;-)

(Drag strips are for fast cars, tracks are for fast drivers...) But the car can hold her own- very good power/ weight ratio, and perfect 50/50 weight distribution. With the proper setup, she can destroy E36 M3's, Boxsters, Caymans, and ANY Miata with little effort. And V-8 Mustangs or Camaros when they try to turn a corner. Anyway, enough about toys. I don't think of it as being a midlife crisis- I think of it as wanting to actually go out and do stuff with my life instead of sitting at home watching reality TV or Adult Swim reruns.
