Here's a bit of good news: I finally bit the bullet and bought myself a new cell phone. Haven't had a new one in at least 5 years. I was due!
Everybody knows I try to not be materialistic but man, it is nice to have something that's fully functional with no scratches and all the original accessories and a WARRANTY !
I had my last phone for less than a year. It was a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 which was a good phone. I bought it used. It was fine until I downloaded an upgrade version of Android recently and it started to get extremely sluggish and eat battery like nobody's business.
My cell phone before that was a Note 3, which was a wonderful phone. I had it for 4 years before I finally bit the bullet and bought the used Note 4.
I'm used to deprivation. That said, it sure is nice to have a brand new Samsung Galaxy Note 8 in my hand. Yes, I know it's not the latest version but it's probably hardly any different from the Note 9 and it was on sale like half price at Best Buy yesterday. All I had to do was slip my T-Mobile SIM card into this one and voila. I'm in business! No contracts, no monthly payments, no dead batteries none of that BS.
And it's unlocked, so if TMobile pisses me off I can divorce them and go to somebody else.
Ain't freedom grand?

Yes, we deserve to splurge once in awhile. Don't lament getting the note 8. The incremental improvements from note 8 to 9 are not huge.

I got a new phone some months back. I haven't had a new phone since the company I worked for closed the doors 7yrs ago. Managers used to get a new flip phone every couple years. My new flip phone is an LG (yes the same folks that make refrigerators and other appliances made my phone). It has a camera and every thing. Even a dedicated button for 911. I'm thinkin at 70 and 1/2 that could come in handy.

Worksforme Even a dedicated button for 911. I'm thinkin at 70 and 1/2 that could come in handy. Me,911, only if i can't fix mu own flat tire or broken chain on a bike ride, 10 miles from nowhere. Even then I might walk or call a friend. Think young Worksforme. Seventy and a half is a spring chicken in some circles.
I have a decent pre-paid smart phone. It is off most of the time because of telemarketers and scammers trying sell me something or trying to send me faxes for "free ripoff" vacations. After my back surgery, I didn't go on vacation for 20 years.

I tend not to run in those circles......This post was really meant mostly in jest.

Nothing wrong with a flip phone...
The old Nokia flip was legendary for its bomb proof construction.

Nothing wrong with a flip phone... The old Nokia flip was legendary for its bomb proof construction. Bomb proof,..maybe…..Dog proof, no...Arriving home late one night I carelessly left my phone and billfold in a pair of pants on the floor. When I woke up my bill fold was open and somewhat chewed next to the pants. Missing from the bill fold was my roughly $60, my Social Security card, and several credit cards. The phone was also AWOL from a front pocket. Between there and her kennel I found 1/2 of the Social Security card, fragments of the money and the well chewed credit cards. The phone was in her kennel and was really well chewed. It must have tasted the best.

For one, they were sturdy, and cheaper! but smartphones are such amazingly powerful devices that they are worth the price, assuming one doesn't pay the premium for the very newest model. My Note 8 is great, especially since it's paid for and was on sale! I'll tell you this: I'd rather have a smartphone than a sexless marriage!

How about a smartphone and a sex filled relationship without worrying about money? Not a great deal of money but being able to pay all bills when due and having a little play money left over.
What I liked about my "flip-phone" was I only had to recharge it every 3 or 4 weeks. No, I didn't use it much but it lasted a long time in stand-by mode.

Who knows what the future holds, but thinking of never having sex again is a sad, sad thought. Paying the bills with a little left over is good enough for me. I've learned to keep myself happy without a lot of cash, though don't get me wrong, it's fun to have money. Nevertheless, IMHO, the pursuit of, and worse, NEED for tons of money and the "status" it supposedly buys causes as many problems as it solves, assuming you can pay the mortgage and the utility bills. I think that if you live your life pursuing money, you'll never have enough. My Note 8 lasts a long time, even though I use it a lot. The old phone was driving me crazy in comparison. So glad I'm not spending all my time charging my cell phone any more!

I have a heart monitor with 4 leads I am supposed to wear for a month as a precautionary measure. I work hard, perspire and the leads come off. The thing has to be charged everyday and sometimes the battery goes dead. I have to sleep with it charging. Generally it is a PITA. One of my smart phones needed to be charged every 3 days and I maybe made 2 one minuet calls, another PITA.
The phone I have now needs to be charged every week if I remember to turn it off at night, otherwise a little sooner.
I almost went back to my old flip phone but the grandkids text me when they need help.
If Google and the other spies didn't collect all of the data, I might use my smart phone as a smart phone. I "greatly RESENT" Google's intrusive nature.

Hmm... Yes, the resulting ear vibrations could be a turn-on. 😜 Sort of like a nibbling substitute?
I just bought two cans of pineapple last night. Perhaps I'll empty the contents in a storage container and whip up a phone like the one pictured. We'll see if I can entice my H to try that out. 😁
