Saarinista, just two thoughts, was the Erector Set really yours or was it coveted by your dad? I can imagine that maybe he wished he had something like that when he was a kid. And might he have been of the mindset that Erector Sets were for boys and not for girls?

That could be the case, Handy! I wish I knew where that Erector Set was. It might be in a storage area with a bunch of my dead parents' stuff in another state. Or maybe it's in my basement. Anyway, at the moment I'm more concerned about un-erecting a couple of load-bearing walls. I might should focus on un-erecting my marriage, but hey, that seems to be taking care of itself. At least there's no interesting in erecting. Hey, I've offered repeatedly, but I think it's not me; my husband is just sexually averse. Oh, well. It's good to have clarity.

Handy, did you ever talk with your Recreation and Parks Department about doing some sort of a basic auto maintenance and repair class geared towards women? I would love to have one of those in my town. Who knows? I think it would be a great way for you to meet women. Maybe you could make a little money, too. And I can almost guarantee you'll get more gratitude than you're getting from your wife. đđ

I have so much work to do on the house, lawn maintenance, lawn equipment, computers, appliances, cooking, yoga, weight loss group, when do I fit in the automotive stuff. Old bad joke, some guys want to hook-up with a woman that owns a bar and she really likes sex. Me, wouldn't mind meeting a woman that can manage money, appreciates a guy that can fix things and she likes weekly sex. OH, add in she goes for bike rides and goes to yoga. Any one fit the bill? I bet there are a few ladies that could do double of what I can do, so maybe I need to be careful for what I wish for. I was in a club with a woman my age that did 10 and 15 mile hikes. Ten to 20 mile bike rides with breaks, yes. Hikes over 4 or 5 miles, no way.
I might not have enough of the right information to help some people. If anyone has a 1964 Chey, I am a genius.

Two cents in the car maintenance class... really basic and simple stuff will go a long way. Iâd suggest starting with basics like fluid levels, airing tires, changing a flat. Buying a new battery (whatâs worth the money, whatâs not, warranties); getting batteries tested free, installed free, and a charging system check for free (Autozone). Getting tires rotated for free (Discount Tire). Getting free brake inspections. Understanding brake repairs (as a consumer, not a tech). Checking fuses; having spares. Then, checklists for regular maintenance. Oil changes, transmission fluid, tire rotations, brake checks, blinker fluid. đ What to expect when your car needs to be towed (who to call, cost, will the shop pay for it, is AAA worth having). Donât try to cram very much into one class. Plan on doing repeats. Maybe use attendee cars for illustration (whatâs where).

Drycreek Donât try to cram very much into one class. The things you listed are all read too much for most people to comprehend and have the patience to go over. Most people have an issue they want to talk about or fix. I totally get the basics of checking fluids and tire air pressure. In the Army, that part was called "motor stable's" or was it called "vehicle stables?" I worked for a us and Japanese car dealership for a couple of years. We had free vehicle inspections anytime people asked. Twice a year we advertised a big vehicle safety check from 5PM until maybe 10PM. We put the car on a lift, took off wheels, checked brakes and steering parts, looked for oil leaks and worn tires, and did some dyno diagnostics. I couldn't do 90% of that on my own. I will agree with the idea of who to call for a tow job was one thing on my list. Unfortunately, I know who to NOT to call. Those big, shiny tow trucks or "roll-on" trucks have some heafty vehicle loan payments to recover and with insurance, wages, operating expenses, a ride to the shop doesn't even sound reasonable to me.
I read a couple of vehicle repair forums and see the nuttiest posts from some people. They have very little time or understanding how parts on a car function and yet they want simple, replace part A answers. Yes there are a lot of very intelligent car repair guys. I am wondering how a 65 year old CPA or a 75 yr old granny with poor eyesight would go about checking 30 some fuses and 10 relays without even basic tools. Like I said, 1964 Chevy, I am a genius. Newer cars with 22 or more onboard computers, not so much.. As far as blinker fluid, here in the north, we use a blinker fluid heater in the winter so the blinkers don't blink so slow that you cant tell a blinker from a parking light. Summer, no problem at 110f, but dehydration is sometimes a concern.

I've been shocked at how many people can NOT accomplish these types of minor chores. My recollection of a few decades back is that many people performed basic auto care. Today, it is becoming far less common!
Saarinista mentioned erector sets in a thread about cars. I have to tell a brief story.
Years ago, I purchased a sporty car that was owned by a woman. She had placed a bumper sticker on the rear bumper of the car from a crane company. It read:
Having trouble getting it up?
Don't let is get you down.
Call ___________ Crane rental.
When this woman placed the sticker on the car, she folded the last line under the bottom edge of the bumper.

I fully expect some people not even know how to check the oil. Some people might not know how or want to open the hood / bonnet. I would also expect some older woman say she rebuilt an engine back in the day. BTW for all you fixer's, I use www.rockauto.com to look up part numbers and then check eBay or Amazon if they have a better price. Rockauto has a lot of stuff but sometimes it ships from different warehouses so you pay a shipping charge from each warehouse. If www.1aauto.com has something at a lower cost, sometimes my local www.autozone.com will match their price. Sometimes not. I think it depends on the store manager that is working that shift. I have gone to a different autozone and they sold me the part where the first autozone wouldn't match the internet price. That is my automotive tip for the day.

Without putting too fine a point on it, the thread actually started as a paen to my wonderful new cell phone. Then it moved on to the effect of pineapple on the taste of strategic body parts, vintage radios, small motor maintenance and classic cars. Finally, we segued back to my long and well- intentioned campaign encouraging Handy to start a parks and rec class teaching women auto maintenance basics. I'm trying to get him out there with actual Montana women instead of writing lovely long posts all day long on this forum so he can get laid again-soon! đđđ

So Handy lives in Montana...Ok, that partially explains why it's difficult for him to meet women...making his prospects for getting laid long odds...

So Handy lives in Montana...Ok, that partially explains why it's difficult for him to meet women...making his prospects for getting laid long odds... Piffle. Maybe Montana has fewer women, but there are still plenty. I think handy needs to spend as little time around his wife as possible and as MUCH time around OTHER women as possible. And Handy with all due respect, I think you're overthinking this Auto course. And maybe it would be a complete bust I don't know. I just know that I would love to go to a BASIC MAINTENANCE class personally. If you bug me about it a little bit, I might just be able to put together a curriculum for you. Another thought : Maybe you could do one via Skype or Signal for the women of iliasm. Some of us have a hard time getting our husbands to maintain our cars as well as other things that require Lube. đđ And I would certainly expect to pay to attend such a class. Don't be giving yourself away too much now. You, I and many of us iliasm types have a tendency to do that and it's not getting us what we want. I mean that said don't make the class too expensive because you know.... đđđ

And Handy....
Montana is home to a bunch of cowboy types as well. Maybe you just need to get on your horse and lasso a woman and take her back to your ranch... đ
