This guy is the human equivalent of a dumpster fire! Opinions differ, and we have been offered observations that political sniping produces a divisive atmosphere that detracts from the coping, learning, healing atmosphere people need when they visit ILIASM. It's not as though I can't string together pejorative adjectives in reply for our former occupant of the White House. Surely I could. It's been gently suggested we leave such invective duels to other forums that would do it less well than we would, but might be more appropriate for exactly that reason. Previously, I figured "Off-Topic" might be a place to vent such things, but the concern was that contentious debate, such as it is, could lead to feelings of animosity that would prevent engaged efforts to help each other heal. This is a place where conservative Christians trapped by their own vows meet up with spouses not having embraced the idea of permanently sacrificing intimacy when society and technology clearly seem to signal the situation is a wretch outlier. We attract political polar opposite by the very nature of our mutual plight. Not everyone will find the scorching nature of modern political is course compatible with their wishes to roam the board and learn to cope, or adjust their lives in response to sexlessness. Unity may be critical here and so little to be gained if we engage our lesser natures that seem to bear so little fruit, tribalism and confirmation bias running through society like a narcotic. Both sides of the aisle claim the other is divisive. Perhaps both sides at ILIASM can agree not to be? |

If there are no hard rules, and if this is not a moderated online community then it will just be what it will be. I did not start this thread, I simply replied to it. If you have an issue with the thread topic I think you should take that up with the person that created the thread, not the people that replied to it. |

If it is, and if politics are not allowed then that should be clearly stated and adhered to. This forum is moderated, but the membership is generally very good about regulating itself so intervention is light-handed. This thread has always walked the edge, but discussion has been polite so it has survived. But I think the time has come to lock this thread and let it age. As mirrororchid points out, this group has enough issues and the membership here does an amazing job of supporting each other through our shared struggles. Although politics is an important discussion topic, it endangers the friendly demeanor that’s core to ILIASM’s survival, so we do need to curb it. I’d have to check to be sure that “no politics” is part of the forum guidelines (if not, it probably should be). But it is specifically in the description for the Off Topic board: “Open chat about non-marital topics. (No politics, though.)” |
