@roch649 you're killing me with your pessimism. I thought I was pretty pessimistic but you have me beat by miles. Ease up a little maybe? From what I can see from your posts you seem to have a good life going for you, except for apparently having a refuser for a wife.
The only thing standing in your way of having a happy life is you. Spend some of that sweet engineer salary on doing something you normally would 't do that makes you happy, something involving a group of people, maybe a weeklong rafting trip for example? Hire a good life coach to work on a happier personal life. Consider group therapy to learn to relate to people better and work on that pathologically pessimistic outlook (not having close relationships with people seems to be a big source of dissatisfaction from what you have said in various posts). These are just some ideas, just do something new and positive in your life, involving people, you need to become part of a community or at the very least form a couple close friendships.

Motivational things bring out my worst... it's the go against the flow side of me....finding people like myself is so damn hard. At my age, they are all too busy with jobs and kids...the people around are retired....and I tried that route once... like hanging with my parents...
And if I avoid the W too much, she will get pissed cause I don't have time to spend my money on things she wants...then she gets depressed....and my life gets worse...
I am such a contrarian when it comes to motivational stuff....

@roch649 Argh! Have you ever tried checking out local Meetup groups? That's one way to meet like minded people.
If not meetups, do you have a dog? If you do and like dog activities (or even if you don't have a dog but do like dogs), that's a great way to meet people (doesn't matter what, volunteering with a rescue/shelter, obedience classes, agility classes, etc.). Also dog activities seem extremely over represented with women (like 5 women or more for every man). And activities focused on dogs means an easy topic of conversation (the dogs obviously).
Get out and spend time with people, even if they don't seem like "your kind of people" at first.

@roch649 is your wife a sociable person? You could improve your marriage and just your own life both at the same time if you find an activity you could join together with your wife. Even something as simple as joining the local Y or gym and going at least every other day would work for a start.

Have 5 dogs....wife is into dog rescue...so I am also by association...with one or more fosters also...my goal is get away from dogs sometimes....

She would like to be but we don't like kids...so finding similar couples is very challenging... Her bad back, knee problems, and migraines rule out any kind of workout... she tried it but could not find good instructors... she was at too much a beginner pace...she feels stupid with all those fit people...and she won't pay for it.... Her 12 hr shifts make her too tired mist days...she lives in the bedroom... and complains we don't go out....and she is not very social...we are both wallflowers...so we just leave.... never have gone to company Xmas parties, summer outings, etc...

I have probably already made my decision...get busy living, or get busy dying.... Looks like it's the latter... Roch, just wondering but do you find people regularly seem to want to slap you?

Could we not make it 'Don't die broken and bitter' Sorry, the specifications were to put the fear of God into you. You WILL die broken and bitter.
