NC has just acknowledged a huge increase in reported Covid19 cases. Positive readings have increased fro 22,000 in the week ending 12-11-21 to 33,000 for the week ending 12-18-21. Looks like the careless attitude and approach I am seeing everyday is yeilding some pretty adverse results. No breakdown listed of what version of the virus is most prevalent here, so I am assuming it is probably still Delta raging around NC. I gotta wonder how so many can become infected after all this time.

Looks like the careless attitude and approach I am seeing everyday is yeilding some pretty adverse results. No breakdown listed of what version of the virus is most prevalent here, so I am assuming it is probably still Delta raging around NC. I gotta wonder how so many can become infected after all this time. That's easy. Omicron is less severe. It feels like a cold until people like my NC friend, discover their sense of smell is flagging. They feel fine so they go out in public, including kids in school, then bring it home. Every time the CDC talks up vaccines, they holler about how it prevents hospitalizations. Now that a variant is causing 70% less hospitalization, they holler about how many positive cases there are. They keep hoping those that have done without the vaccine will somehow get scared by a less virulent strain sweeping through the population. No. It's time to unmask and socialize heavily and get everyone infected by this more-manageable strain so we get to that herd immunity with fewer deaths. Rather than squeeze it off to a trickle, let Omicron fade away and let more deadly variants kill off a larger number by onesies and twosies while the rest of us put up with endless testing, masking, closures, etc. treasuring each unvacc'd human life despite deliberate self-endangerment. They wanted this. This is what the non-vacc'd have been waiting for, whether they know it or not. This is their all-natural immunity time. It still might kill them, but probably won't, and it's about as good as they're going to get. It's time for their skydiving, bungee-jumping, double diamond ski run. Medical daredevils? You're up to bat. Good luck.

www.cnn.com/2022/04/26/politics/paxlovid-biden-administration-covid-19-pill/index.html20 million doses. at $500 a shot. 10 billion bucks to Pfizer. Just Pfizer. 500,000 were used through late April 2022. If COVID gets no better, the first third of April, this is a thirteen year supply. I have three conclusions:
1) Someone can't do math and some of this is going to expire before it gets used. 2) There's no expectation all this will be used. It's a gift to Pfizer. Like all the Wuhan-strain vaccines getting pushed despite negligible benefit. (I'm assuming) the cost for vaccines is the same regardless of how effective it is) 3) The US Government expects COVID to get much worse soon, for some reason. If it's number 3, you heard it here first. Pandemic, round two. Courtesy of bioweapons labs worldwide. China, Russia,....maybe USAMRID. My money is on #2 though. 501(c)(6) Benjamins tied up with pretty bows and thank you notes to be delivered to "Americans for America Committee". Biden 2024.

Obamacare sold the entire country lock, stock, and barrel to the insurance industry, turning millions of functioning healthcare policies into de facto high-deductible major medical plans, all under the false flag of “universal healthcare.” To the best of my knowledge, that revenue bump has never been calculated. It’s already in the playbook; why wouldn’t Washington leverage it?

It’s already in the playbook; why wouldn’t Washington leverage it? Obamacare plans are expensive and that's a bad thing, yes. Cheap health insurance had serious problems: www.healthcare.gov/health-care-law-protections/The critical ones, to me: Existing conditions. (insurance was cheaper because anyone who wasn't going to be profitable wasn't allowed to buy it.) Caps. Cheap programs could eventually leave you with the entire bill if you got something chronic and expensive. Which is kind of the whole point of insurance. Rescission. Cheap insurance was cheap for really important reasons. If we can make it cheaper (and we can!), great. But it had to be adequate coverage first. I can charge you five bucks a month, but if all I cover is band-aids for boo-boos. It's a very expensive, shitty plan.

In order to take preexisting conditions off the table and provide subsidized healthcare for the poor, Obamacare allowed a complete reworking of the health insurance paradigm for everybody. Which means, suddenly, all I had the opportunity to get through my employer was a range of expensive high deductible plans which cost me more out of pocket (premium and total out-of-pocket) and cover less in the way of service. Basically, major medical plans. It’s like a swanky French restaurant removing the reservation requirement and dress code in the name of “inclusivity”, but then dishing up McDonalds for the cost of a filet mignon. Except with a restaurant, you have other options.

Except with a restaurant, you have other options. I'd be curious about the plan you had before 2010. You can get low cost dental plans now. They generally get capped at something like $1500 per year. It may be impossible at this point to find out what limitations your old plan had. I'm unsure any premiums are funding the Medicaid expansion. That's a direct outlay, like the Medicaid before 2010. It's a godsend to rural hospitals that were treating patients with no funding. Folks not sold on saving teh lives of the poor can think of it as hospital support in areas that aren't profitable. Which may be most of America, minus public help. www.commonwealthfund.org/publications/fund-reports/2018/jul/eliminating-individual-mandate-penalty-behavioral-factorsIn Massachusetts, I was a bit surprised to see that Mitt Romney's Obamacare found: "full implementation of the mandate was associated with a 23 percent decline in premiums" For better, for worse, Congress removed the mandate. Could maintenance of that mandate have pushed premiums down? We're unlikely to know. The least popular part of Obamacare got removed and it's a tough sell to put it back. (not comfortable with the concept, myself. Also not pleased about hospitals paying for uninsured people's care by jacking up prices for people that have insurance (and those higher prices getting added to our high premiums)

Monkeypox is having an outbreak. It can be airborne, and has a death rate of about 3-6%, which means perhaps 13 million dead Americans. In 2019 some biotechnology company designed a vaccine for an eradicated disease we call smallpox which will be effective. Funny how these things happen.
After all the Covid shutdowns to unsuccessfully stop a virus which is much more survivable, we've done a lot of damage to our supply chains. I don't expect monkeypox to be particularly widespread, but, I imagine if it was easily transmitted we would see a lot of misery, because we weakened our system before the real problem showed up.

Thursday (May 26th) I felt sweaty and chills during the night. My thermometer was not working, dead battery? hard to buy a thermometer at 3 in the morning!
I received zero sleep that night, also my son was in a car accident and called me to come get him. he's fine, no one else involved, his car is totaled. (That's it's own story which I'd rather not share)
I went to work Fri (May 27th) Went to Doctors urgent care and my rapid test was negative. Bought a new thermometer and had a 100.5* another night of sweats and a closing up sore throat.
Since my test came back negative, I was told it's probably a cold or maybe the flu, so I went jet skiing with a group of 60 people Sat. down the Saint Johns River ( I got airborn 3 times! whether I wanted too or not!) Mostly staying to myself. I had a fever of 102.5 that night.
Sunday (May 28th) I took a home test, it came up positive. My temp made it to 103. it felt weird wearing my winter clothes outside in Florida on 85 degree day!
Monday morning (May 29th) No fever! I took a little bike ride that evening.
Tuesday (today May 30th 2022) No fever 100% better!
My research says that I had Omicron variant. A upper respiratory infection, which gave me severe throat pains, headaches, body aches, fever, chills, sweats, flem, some coughing, and lack of sleep. Fortunately, it was over in a few days, I kept my sense of taste and smell, and had no lung infections! A mild version of Covid. I had both my vaccine shots many months ago. They most likely had already worn off.
Following CDC guidelines I'll be back to work Friday Morning!
I'm actually glad it finally happened, I was fortunate to get a mild version, my good physical condition helps, and now I should be more immune to getting it again!

Congratulations, greatcoastal, on now being on the other side of this endemic. You've now got better immunity than those with only the vaccines. Being sick sucks. I had my Omicron illness last December. Urgh. I am sick again this week. My girlfriend got tested, negative for Covid. I think this bout is just the flu, as nobody in the house has had the Covid symptoms this time.

I had my Omicron illness last December. Urgh. I am sick again this week. My girlfriend got tested, negative for Covid. I think this bout is just the flu, as nobody in the house has had the Covid symptoms this time. Sick again this week? Hopefully it will be even milder than the first Omicron? The doctor at Doctors Urgent Care told me " the whole staff here has had double shots and a booster, and all of us have had Covid twice now, fortunately it's been mild." Tested negative? So did I, the first time. I asked the doctor " what are the odds that my test is correct?" He said " 85% accuracy" I thought, hmmm... that means a 15% error rate. If your girlfriends symptoms continue, especially a closed up throat and fever take a home test. My HR personnel told me " your first test being negative is common, it seems you have to be deep into the symptoms of covid for it to come up positive". I took my home test on the day my temp was 103 degrees! I'm going back to work this Friday morning.

In December, my girlfriend had the Covid muscle pains, and the kids both had taste issues. I couldn't find a place with a test, but those symptoms are telltale. This outbreak snuck up on me. It shouldn't have. First bout, I had ivermectin which I credit with the mildness. This time, I knew we had a flu exposure but didn't think to be preemptive.

The latest variant of Covid 19 is making a resurgence here in my cow county. Probably because so many people work in the adjacent county that has a large population and provides much of the funding to surrounding counties. My county is numbered among then 50 where masking indoors is recommended again. I don't have any faith in the CDC but I do trust my states numbers, so I have begun strapping on a face covering. Seeing so many high profile gov. officials test positive gives me no confidence in all the inoculations I took. Fortunately, I have a goodly supply of N90 masks, so I am ready for this contingency.

Got hit.
Recovering, but still got headaches. (or is that caffeine withdrawal still?) Had some chicken soup yesterday. First food in 36 hours. Picked up a smoothie for the Mrs. at Mickey D's drive through with mask on. McChicken sounded okay. Gone in 30 seconds. COVID is on the ropes.
Second dance for me. Had Wuhan in Nov 2020
Had J&J vaccine due to presidential demand or get fired from my contractor gig.
Was really hoping to kick it faster this time, but it's about the same, four days.
Hungry right now. Good sign.

So much as I hate the thought, I have returned to masking again.
