So often when I'm feeling down from the vacuum of love that I call a marriage, I turn to music to try to find meaning in the music that I listen to..
For starters to this (hopefully a thread), I'll list one of my favorites, from Bonnie Rait. "I can't make you love me..." It's sad and sweet, but it speaks to me.
Turn down the lights Turn down the bed Turn down these voices inside my head Lay down with me Tell me no lies Just hold me close, don't patronize Don't patronize me
'Cause I can't make you love me if you don't You can't make your heart feel something it won't Here in the dark, in these final hours I will lay down my heart and I'll feel the power But you won't, no you won't 'Cause I can't make you love me, if you don't
I'll close my eyes, then I won't see The love you don't feel when you're holding me Morning will come and I'll do what's right Just give me till then to give up this fight And I will give up this fight
'Cause I can't make you love me if you don't You can't make your heart feel something it won't Here in the dark, in these final hours I will lay down my heart and I'll feel the power But you won't, no you won't 'Cause I can't make you love me, if you don't

Bonnie Raitt. Yes, an amazing musician with the guitar. Her blues are so soulful. Her voice is very sultry. I truly relate to the sadness in that particular song...

Lyin' Eyes / Lyrics
City girls just seem to find out early How to open doors with just a smile A rich old man And she won't have to worry She'll dress up all in lace and go in style Late at night a big old house gets lonely I guess every form of refuge has its price And it breaks her heart to think her love is only Given to a man with hands as cold as ice So she tells him she must go out for the evening To comfort an old friend who's feelin' down But he knows where she's goin' as she's leavin' She is headed for the cheatin' side of town You can't hide your lyin' eyes And your smile is a thin disguise I thought by now you'd realize There ain't no way to hide your lyin' eyes On the other side of town a boy is waiting With fiery eyes and dreams no one could steal She drives on through the night anticipating 'Cause he makes her feel the way she used to feel She rushes to his arms, they fall together She whispers that it's only for awhile She swears that soon she'll be comin' back forever She pulls away and leaves him with a smile You can't hide your lyin' eyes And your smile is a thin disguise I thought by now you'd realize There ain't now way to hide your lyin' eyes She gets up and pours herself a strong one And stares out at the stars up in the sky Another night, it's gonna be a long one She draws the shade and hangs her head to cry She wonders how it ever got this crazy She thinks about a boy she knew in school Did she get tired or did she just get lazy? She's so far gone she feels just like a fool My oh my, you sure know how to arrange things You set it up so well, so carefully Ain't it funny how your new life didn't change things? You're still the same old girl you used to be You can't hide your lyin' eyes And your smile is a thin disguise I thought by now you'd realize There ain't no way to hide your lyin' eyes There ain't no way to hide your lyin' eyes Honey, you can't hide your lyin' eyes

Silhouette / Lyrics
I keep waking at night in the freezing cold Staring at the shadows coming up the walls Giving me a feeling I can't define "Is there anyone there?" I say to the dark But all I get back is a beating heart Going out of rhythm and I realize Oh, something's changed Oh, something's changed It's just a silhouette, a flick in the blinds It's just a mind trick, I don't know why But it reminds me of someone that I used to know All that I can't forget, is there every night right beside me I open my eyes and it reminds me I should have never let you go Look up there don't you see her face That familiar heart, that familiar shape Giving me a feeling, I can't define Oh, something's changed Oh, something's changed It's just a silhouette, a flick in the blinds It's just a mind trick, I don't know why But it reminds me of someone that I used to know All that I can't forget, is there every night right beside me I open my eyes and it reminds me I should have never let you go I wanna put my arms around you Tell everyone I found you But you're just a shadow in my mind You know you've got me so enchanted Why you gotta be cold-heart Dancing on your own in the cold streetlight You're just a silhouette, a flick in the blinds It's just a mind trick, I don't know why But it reminds me of someone that I used to know All that I can't forget, is there every night right beside me I open my eyes and it reminds me I should have never let you go Silhouette, don't change, don't stay Someone that I used to know, oh someone that I used to know

Me too. I love 💗 reading song lyrics and when I hear a song I listen for the words first.

I think songwriters of any merit have to pull some of this from their own experience. Hence, a lot of emotional torment becomes music.... I think we can all relate on some level..

Point is... The song's poignant enough to make anyone going through it choke up. Sad thing is how many wives are clueless about the internal devastation they cause us. (Not to say it doesn't work both ways.) But somehow, no matter what the root problem, it's ALWAYS the man's fault. Must be wonderful to live in a little bubble where you never have to own a single problem...

Bfar, the more you read this and some other forums, the more evidence you will find several men have little interested in sex or doing sexually what the wife wants or needs. I thought it was 95% of the men that were cut short on intimacy and sex. Now I see it is more like 60% men and 40% of the women that feel neglected.
Bfar, welcome to the club. We are an understanding bunch with only a few solutions. Most solutions are not easy to enact and have some negative consequences.

She's Always a Woman / Lyrics
She can kill with a smile, she can wound with her eyes She can ruin your faith with her casual lies And she only reveals what she wants you to see She hides like a child but she's always a woman to me She can lead you to love, she can take you or leave you She can ask for the truth but she'll never believe you And she'll take what you give her as long as it's free Yeah she steals like a thief but she's always a woman to me Oh, she takes care of herself, she can wait if she wants She's ahead of her time Oh, she never gives out and she never gives in She just changes her mind And she'll promise you more than the garden of Eden Then she'll carelessly cut you and laugh while you're bleeding But she brings out the best and the worst you can be Blame it all on yourself 'cause she's always a woman to me Oh, she takes care of herself, she can wait if she wants She's ahead of her time Oh, she never gives out and she never gives in She just changes her mind She is frequently kind and she's suddenly cruel She can do as she pleases, she's nobody's fool But she can't be convicted, she's earned her degree And the most she will do is throw shadows at you But she's always a woman to me

Goo Goo Dolls - Iris Lyrics
And I'd give up forever to touch you Cause I know that you feel me somehow You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be And I don't want to go home right now
And all I can taste is this moment And all I can breathe is your life Cause sooner or later it's over I just don't want to miss you tonight
And I don't want the world to see me Cause I don't think that they'd understand When everything's made to be broken I just want you to know who I am
And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming Or the moment of truth in your lies When everything feels like the movies Yeah you bleed just to know you're alive
And I don't want the world to see me Cause I don't think that they'd understand When everything's made to be broken I just want you to know who I am
I don't want the world to see me Cause I don't think that they'd understand When everything's made to be broken I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am I just want you to know who I am I just want you to know who I am I just want you to know who I am

Lucille / Lyrics
In a bar in Toledo across from the depot On a barstool, she took off her ring I thought I'd get closer so I walked on over I sat down and asked her name When the drinks finally hit her she said "I'm no quitter But I finally quit livin' on dreams I'm hungry for laughter and here ever after I'm after whatever the other life brings" In the mirror, I saw him and I closely watched him I thought how he looked out of place He came to the woman who sat there beside me He had a strange look on his face The big hands were calloused, he looked like a mountain For a minute I thought I was dead But he started shaking, his big heart was breaking He turned to the woman and said "You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille With four hungry children and a crop in the field I've had some bad times, lived through some sad times But this time your hurting won't heal You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille" After he left us, I ordered more whiskey I thought how she'd made him look small From the lights of the barroom To a rented hotel room We walked without talking at all She was a beauty but when she came to me She must have thought I'd lost my mind I couldn't hold her 'cause the words that he told her Kept coming back time after time "You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille With four hungry children and a crop in the field I've had some bad times, lived through some sad times But this time your hurting won't heal You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille With four hungry children and a crop in the field I've had some bad times, lived through some sad times But this time your hurting won't heal You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille"

Love Hurts / Lyrics
Tonight we drink to youth and holding fast to truth Don't wanna lose what I had as a boy My heart still has a beat but love is now a feat As common as a cold day in LA Sometimes when I'm alone I wonder Is there a spell that I am under Keeping me from seeing the real thing? Love hurts But sometimes it's a good hurt And it feels like I'm alive Love sings When it transcends the bad things Have a heart and try me 'Cause without love I won't survive I'm fettered and abused, stand naked and accused Should I surface this one man submarine? I only want the truth so tonight we drink to youth I'll never lose what I had as a boy Sometimes when I'm alone, I wonder Is there a spell that I am under Keeping me from seeing the real thing? Love hurts But sometimes it's a good hurt And it feels like I'm alive Love sings When it transcends the bad things Have a heart and try me 'Cause without love I won't survive Without love I won't survive Love hurts But sometimes it's a good hurt And it feels like I'm alive Love sings When it transcends the bad things Have a heart and try me 'Cause without love I won't survive Love hurts Love hurts Without love I won't survive Love hurts Love hurts Without love I won't survive

Say something, I'm giving up on you I'll be the one, if you want me to Anywhere, I would've followed you Say something, I'm giving up on you
And I am feeling so small It was over my head I know nothing at all
And I will stumble and fall I'm still learning to love Just starting to crawl
Say something, I'm giving up on you I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you Anywhere, I would've followed you Say something, I'm giving up on you
And I will swallow my pride You're the one that I love And I'm saying goodbye
Say something, I'm giving up on you And I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you And anywhere, I would have followed you Oh, oh, oh, oh say something, I'm giving up on you
Say something, I'm giving up on you Say something
This speaks to me. The cadence, the melancholy, the lost hope of love, its heartbreaking.
