TMD! That went as well as could be expected! Good job. I am sure there are more trials ahead, however, I will remain positive and choose to believe this will be smoother than most! Yay! I need the optimism! I'll hold you to it. Thanks, JMX.

Wow... A year? And that's expedited? What locale do you live in that would needlessly inflict that kind of pain on you, your kids, and even your husband. Not saying Texas is perfect, but I think their 60 day waiting period (to cool off if necessary) strikes the right balance between making sure people don't rush into things and getting on with it. But a serious tip of the hat for getting things started! Yeah. If we are in agreement - even Alabama is a quick 30 day turn-around for the judge to sign off. 30 days?!?!?! I'm starting to feel like our govt is made up of sadists.

Doesn't it seem that the waiting period for marriage licenses, and the waiting period for divorces... ought to be pretty similar? It should be at least as hard to get into this mess (if not harder!) as it is to get out.
If ever a "cooling off" period was needed, it's on the way in! Along with mandatory marriage counseling before-the-fact. And a psych evaluation for "repeat offenders". ;-)

This makes more sense than anything else I have ever read either on EP or this forum.

Just holy rolling Bible thumpers. Well, they just present that image while doing the 40 year younger secretary on the governor's desk. If you don't know who I am taking about Google Alabama Love Gov, he is 75 and had a mistress 30 years younger. He was a deacon and taught Sunday school.

I just looked at Maryland's requirements, and it requires separation for 1 year (different addresses) with no sexual contact. Unless you can declare "fault grounds", adultery, insanity, mentally instituted, cruelty, vicious conduct. No where does the absence of love factor into it.
So cruelty and vicious conduct includes grounds for mental abuse, impairment of health or permanently destroys happiness but does not include marital neglect.
There is also mutual consent divorce but you can't have minor children.
