Mom: Lets watch a movie. I know a really good one.
Me: As long as no one dies.
Mom: No one dies. It's a beautiful love story.
Me: What's it about?
Mom: A young black woman with two young children marries an older handicapped man and they go up against the Ku klux klan.
Me: How much older?
Mom: A lot older.
Me: Was he able to be a husband to her?
Mom: It doesn't matter, he loved her and she had already been married once and had children.
(In my mind I yell, "Oh, just because she had already been married and had children she shouldn't want sex!" What the heck is romantic about that? Did he apologize that he wouldn't be able to fulfill his husbandry duties?)
Me: Why did they get married? Why didn't he just adopt her and allow her to find someone to be a husband.
Mom: They loved each other.
Me: (sigh)
Mom: They never went into that.
Me: They didn't show them in an intimate situation?
Mom: No. It wasn't about that.
Me: But they got married. It's all about that.
Mom: Here, you choose the movie.

Ah those wonderful Hallmark movies. My wife watches those from time to time...by herself! I have no interest in them.

ME TOO !!!
Here is my movie critic 3 cents:
Bridges of Madison County - oh they truly loved each other but she stayed in a Sexless Marriage and lived her life lonely and they scattered their ashes together over the Bridge upon each one's death. My Three Cents - Screw that shit - Life is for the Living.
Dangerous Liaisons - They find true love but then the Marquis cannot escape the bullshit manipulations and lets himself be killed.
My Three Cents - F--k that - go for it and run off together.
American Gigalo - She is in an SM to a powerful Politician and finds true love with a Gigalo - who falls back in love with her. They dilly dally and end up getting murdered and framed respectively.
My Three Cents - Life is Short - when you find true love dont wish and hope only to be sitting ducks to all the jealous controllers - take each others hands and elope and go for it ASAP.
By the way - personal anecdote - about 100 years ago in the 1920s my Great Grandmother ran off with the neighbors husband after being in a horrible marriage. Very brave and romantic woman. It must be in my blood.

Another thought just occurred to me....Maybe I'm living in a Hallmark movie! I've never thought I live in a Hallmark movie. Perhaps a drama (tragedy) or comedy (graveyard humor). Certainly, though, it is G rated and moves pretty slow without going anywhere. I'm looking forward to this summer when I can get my hands back on the remote.

God I love Bridges of Madison County.
The fear of growing old in a SM which also had a lot of other dysfunction as well, scared the shit out of me. Waking up in my 60's and saying I should have left in my forties.
I do not know if I'll ever find true romantic love again but I can live with that because I have love in other forms in my life and I have passion too at times.
Maybe most people don't get to have it all! Maybe some people can have it all but they don't allow themselves to. It's our lives, it's what we make of it on this short time on Earth.
God she should have gotten out of the truck.

The W watches the Hallmark movies. Maybe we need to add that channel to the list of red flags. Every single one of those movies are about finding someone to marry with only a few shoulder brushes, hugs, and a kiss. There might be an awkward scene where the 2 people are pushed/ fall into a hugging horizontal position but they get up and have a discussed look.
The movies could at least throw in an off camera post wedding insuenating that they enjoyed and wanted to consummate thier wedding night.

But no, these movies are all about only wanting the appearance of a loving/ functional relationship without touching the other person's skin.
And the W wonders why I roll my eyes and complain about watching those movies.

And the W wonders why I roll my eyes and complain about watching those movies. Presumably those films speak to her because they are closely related to the movie in her head about what and how a marriage should be. That's the thing. I never tried to find out what my wife's movie was, either. She's about duty. She only eats half her steak so she can sacrifice herself and have me eat the other half. She changes the sheets on the bed. It never occurs to her to make a wet spot on the sheets first. I should've tried to find out first........

The marriage falls apart and thru 1 persons self sacrifice somehow the other person realizes how much they still love the sacrificer and works on earning back thier love. They get back together and might even have a wedding vow renewal, all with only a hug and kissing like how normal people kids thier kids goodnight.

God she should have gotten out of the truck. Awesome BBgirl. Well said. I loved that movie. I have the book too. I understood why she didn't get out of the truck. I like to fantasize that they met up again. And again. And again. Isn't it interesting how being sexless has colored our entire world? I can't enjoy certain movies because they make me angry. My mom doesn't get it. Of course she is extremely catholic and sex is only for procreation.
