But no, these movies are all about only wanting the appearance of a loving/ functional relationship without touching the other person's skin. And the W wonders why I roll my eyes and complain about watching those movies. Presumably those films speak to her because they are closely related to the movie in her head about what and how a marriage should be. That's the thing. I never tried to find out what my wife's movie was, either. She's about duty. She only eats half her steak so she can sacrifice herself and have me eat the other half. She changes the sheets on the bed. It never occurs to her to make a wet spot on the sheets first. I should've tried to find out first........ Thank you petrushka! That is something that never occurred to me. What is the movie running in my husband's head? Oh my, he would be horrified to see mine!

God I love Bridges of Madison County. The fear of growing old in a SM which also had a lot of other dysfunction as well, scared the shit out of me. Waking up in my 60's and saying I should have left in my forties. I do not know if I'll ever find true romantic love again but I can live with that because I have love in other forms in my life and I have passion too at times. Maybe most people don't get to have it all! Maybe some people can have it all but they don't allow themselves to. It's our lives, it's what we make of it on this short time on Earth. God she should have gotten out of the truck. Awesome BBgirl. Well said. I loved that movie. I have the book too. I understood why she didn't get out of the truck. I like to fantasize that they met up again. And again. And again. Isn't it interesting how being sexless has colored our entire world? I can't enjoy certain movies because they make me angry. My mom doesn't get it. Of course she is extremely catholic and sex is only for procreation. They did meet up again and again. In their dreams and their minds. So passionate but so sad to want to be with someone but you can't. Yes being in a SM and understanding the selfishness, poor choices, and bad behavior by my ex husband has opened my eyes to a new world. A less judgemental world and even less judgemental of my ex. He is who he is. I couldn't change that. So then the ball was in my court for what I wanted for my future life. I got out of the truck and that decision wasn't any harder or easier than Francesca made that day, but I do understand the 2 reasons she didn't get out as well. Gosh I love a good love story with passionate sex scenes.

You have to remember that to people of that generation a good movie was meant to entertain without producing much emotion. Films prior to the 60s sex was off the table. A good war movies show little blood and definitely no gore and so on and so. So mom probably had no understanding that you were assigning real life to the movie

The W watches the Hallmark movies. Maybe we need to add that channel to the list of red flags. Every single one of those movies are about finding someone to marry with only a few shoulder brushes, hugs, and a kiss. There might be an awkward scene where the 2 people are pushed/ fall into a hugging horizontal position but they get up and have a discussed look. The movies could at least throw in an off camera post wedding insuenating that they enjoyed and wanted to consummate thier wedding night. Or a scene with the passionate kisses and panting. They pull away and say "No, no! We mussent, this is a G rated grandma movie!" Or a voice over: "Their passion took a physical turn. Which we will not show. However, you for 3.99 you can subscribe to the Hallmark Special Entertainment Xtras. Channel. A channel dedicated to woman's passions". Marketing....

That might be a premium channel I could justify getting. Maybe they could have a movie where a SM drives the couple apart, the spouse deals with the religious issues and realizes he/she can be intimate with thier spouse and goes about making up for lost time.

I love old films but I have to confess that I've never seen a Hallmark movie.
OK then, what are your thoughts on 'Brief Encounter'? A film about as British as it gets and one of my all-time favourites.

Like you, i know that my wife would find nothing appealing to her if she cared to see into my head. Which she doesn't. What she doesn't know can't hurt her, and she can judge me just as easily by making assumptions as she can by knowing the details of the whole picture postcard.

Imagine all those Disney classics where the princess lives "Happily ever after" After the kiss which leads to the heavy intimacy and the sex. They could show all their clothes laying at the castle gate, and moaning sounds coming from the castle, after all, it is a "fantasy land".

My X actually had relatives that lived in Madison County, Iowa. On one of our trips to visit her relations we spent a day taking in several of the bridges that were in the movie. But guess what? There was not 1 once of romance to be had from any of those bridges.
