I wonder if anything today is too absurd to be considered? Onsies in crowded public places? Grand Canyon compared to a department store? I can qualify as a woman just because I say I am? What if I think I'm Napoleon Bonaparte? Did Napoleon need his own private bathroom? I guess it must have been hard getting out of those tight breeches with one arm...

Yeah. What could possibly go wrong with this new policy? I'll stop there before I go on a rant... I actually deleted most of my rant before I posted. It does no good to upset myself before bed, so I know what you mean. It boggles my mind sometimes when I see what other people think is "right".

I know this thread took a different tack but I am going back to the original post. Would it not be a simple solution to just have all restrooms as "family" restrooms? No gender designation and 1 sink and 1 stall. Why do we need group restrooms? THIS. Why not just make all restrooms onesies? It would even address Jasiri's concerns about not wanting a man she was out with to be too familiar with her bathroom behaviors. Single cubicle bathrooms with their own doors would solve all the problems. I wonder if anything today is too absurd to be considered? Onsies in crowded public places? Grand Canyon compared to a department store? I can qualify as a woman just because I say I am? What if I think I'm Napoleon Bonaparte? Exactly. Does this mean any guy saying he is a woman can now use the ladies room? What about cross dressers who mostly are straight and still fancy women, but just like to dress in women's clothes...will they be using the ladies? A minority is turning social norms and basic decorum on its head.

It seems it would be better to help the few troubled folks cope better with this than to try to bend reality to accommodate their delusions.

I used that analogy to explain the Bruce Jenner deal to my kids. They were blown away to find that he was one of the greatest athletes of all time. The analogy was that if one of them believed they were Napoleon, as loving parents, we would never indulge their delusions and provide them with surgery to assist them with it. We would lovingly seek to help them overcome the delusion. Then they asked if Bruce Jenner didn't have a family. "Well, ...."

Creel, I do believe there are genuine cases of gender mix up, where one sex feels it's another. I feel compassion for these people. It must be awful to be born feeling female with the body of a male, and vice versa. The problem is when this very small minority of the population want everything changed to suit their own interests. We are talking change biological/social/cultural norms that have been in place since time began. Men were men (though some were homosexual) and women were women (though some preferred women). This is how nature intended. There is a reason why men and women have different sex organs. We can be considerate of genuine transgenders while not turning common decency and decorum on its head.

No doubt to any of this. I'm just not convinced that encouraging these feelings is really compassionate or caring. The end result of these conditions when untreated or encouraged is disastrous. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stalking_CatThis fellow is an extreme case. No one cared enough to help him. The suicide rate among transgenders is staggering.

After much deliberation I've come to the conclusion that I'm in favor of retaining bathroom segregation. Look I even drew up a pro's and con's list to help me decide. Pro: we men may get to catch up on a little more gossip we might otherwise never be privy to. Con: Have you seen the line up outside the women's loo. ? Vote NO to flush this obscenity away. I agree. I quite like the idea in principle, but waiting 20 minutes for the bathroom after a movie or in a busy club? NO!!!!
