A Prius?! Who would have thought... Lightish weight + aerodynamics... I could see that. I just want to know how long it took to get there. Yeah we weren't exactly pinned to our seats LOL. There's a stretch of Rt 70 heading out towards the beach that's an almost perfect straight shot of like 5-10 miles. I shudder to think how fast you could go there on a CBR. Let's not find out.

...and we're gonna need to hear more about this '65 Mustang... It was sweet. Actually a 64 1/2, pony interior, 289 engine, completely refurbished with original parts except for a '66 gas cap. LOVED that car. Unfortunately, so did my dad so any time I pulled up at the house he would "hear a sound" and have to check it out. This would result in my car in pieces and then he would drive it for a week to "make sure it was good to go". He was a car guy. I eventually figured out he was playing me. So easy to get a ticket in Orange Co. When the 405 is wide open, it just begs for speed. I lived in Huntington Beach for awhile. My Dad was a car fixer too. But as my first car was a Rover Metro (I had to fold myself up to get in and out, but it was a special edition with sports seats) he didn't nick off with it...ever ha ha. He used to have car jobs lined up in the steeet so he could buy my sister's and me shoes.... mother didn't work and smoked like a chimney so he needed the extra cash and loved working on cars. Miss my Pops tonnes

I've been drivin' all night, my hand's wet on the wheel There's a voice in my head that drives my heel It's my baby callin', says I need you here And it's a half past four and I'm shiftin' gear When she is lonely and the longing gets too much She sends a cable comin' in from above Don't need no phone at all!!
Oh yeah! FLOOR IT BABY!!

While this is not THE car it is representative of the car I first found "speed" with. A 1975 Chevy Camaro. After seizeing the stock 305 2bbl engine (note to self: curbs rip oil pans off) I built a 350 4 bbl engine for it. (My very first engine build) That engine floated a valve a 112 mph at about 2am on the New Jersey Turnpike. At least the laughing cop told me I was doing 112mph. (Note to self: Pay attention to valve springs) I rebuilt that engine into a 383 Stroker (I simply do not learn) THAT engine blew a piston at 125 mph at about 2am on the New Jersey Turnpike. At least I think it was about 125mph - the speedo only goes to 120 and it pinned. (Note to self: Do NOT buy the cheapest parts, buy the BEST parts.) As a result, I no longer drive late at night. This is the song that was playing. To this day, no speed limit sign stands a chance....

cagedtiger Why are New Yorker's so angry? Because the "light at the end of the tunnel" is New Jersey. And yes - both times I was coming home through the Lincoln tunnel. But I've always seen speed limits like this: Of course, this was all back in the days when cops were fun and allowed to exercise judgement: Trooper: "You blew up your engine? - Good. You were driving fast but not like an asshole. I can't believe you're not drunk. So get this piece of shit towed and out of face." Me:"Fuck"

And there are so many other songs that make me want to drive fast. Not that I need much encouragement - I drive as fast as I think I can get away with.

I drive fast when the radio is off. I like to drive by myself so I can push 90 without any comments from passengers.

I spent a few years in my early 20s working as a motorbike courier in London. So I am going to leave off talking about speeds in case I get shot. I found this video yesterday though and got all nostalgic...

The mail delivery truck I drive out in the boondocks here is a Ford Ranger, turbocharged diesel. Much of the run is on dirt roads, some of it requiring engaging 4wd. But, in the latter stages of the run, there is a stretch of nearly 5k of straight (tarmac) road (bar one gentle S) heading back in to town. - Sometimes, I can't resist the temptation to open the taps, though it is a most unglamorous vehicle, aerodynamically challenged and handles like a barge. But it will do 182kph (about 110mph) on a good day when you give it the message. But the noise !! .... it precludes being able to hear any musical accompanyment. If it was possible to hear some music during this process, reckon I'd vote for Tom Petty and "Runnin' Down a Dream"
