I have no clue about anything when it comes to Pounds versus Dollars, British geography (where is this close to? And is it close to anywhere I'd be interested in?) or the English housing market, but I kinda want to buy this. Or to live here. Or both. eternaloptimism, can you make this happen? 4 Privet Drive for Sale

XE.com will give you up-to-date exchange rates. You'd be looking at US$310,000 there. 450K NZ$. Cheap at the price if it were in Auckland, NZ (or Vancouver, I guess).
Looks like a nice enough place, provided you don't have busted knees ....

£475,000 is $619,468 according to the currency converter. It's a quaint house.

Yeah. I would NOT pay that much for that house cagedtiger . Caris has the right exchange rate. 2 reasons it's so over priced....Harry Potter and Commutable to London. My sister lives down that way...it's a bit warmer than up North, but that's really the only advantage. There are some stunning properties around that price. I will find some examples for you

Unbelievable what you can get for the same as Potter''s cubby hole! Close to the beach too. On the other hand, and CT can correct me since I've only been there a few times, Wilmington is basically a tourist town. So there's not a lot there beside touristy stuff like restaurants, hotels, surf shops, etc. A giant multinational clinical trials company is HQ'd there though, so it's not just retired folks and beach bums. Oh one minor detail: They don't call NC's NHL team the Hurricanes just for their fearsome playing style. Still who doesn't love Wilmington?

Cheshire is a lovely place. I worked in a beautiful village there when young, and was there again about 6-years ago.

Also, the film industry (despite the governor's best efforts to undo that)- Dawson's Creek was filmed there, along with Sleepy Hollow, One Tree Hill, and almost every Nicholas Sparks movie in the last 20 years. There's the port for cargo ships, though New Bern is bigger. And don't forget the university- UNCW is just up the road. That's handy for... research... Yeah... The downtown area is pretty sheltered from the major hurricanes- the barrier islands usually take all the hits, and most of downtown is high enough that the Cape Fear won't won't flood it.

This house would be a great B&B. I love Wilmington, NC! How about Charleston? As much as I love Wilmington, Charleston will always have an even more special place in my heart.
