tooyoungtobeold, just buy a Sears and Roebuck Kit house. OK, sorry that was back before WWII.
Truth is I have a friend that lives in a "CraftsMan house" that was a kit sold by the good old Sears company. It has some "ginger bread" features but it is still just a basic house. I know people that like old stuff so this "Craftsman house" is their thing.
For me it is interesting how people got into a house. I am a firm believer in home ownership for most but not all people. I think home ownership makes better communities.

Helping my son move out of our house. The house is full of his stuff and once he goes, then we can start to clean and improve. He has a new apartment but it is the glacial speed of the move that gets me.

A backpack, laptop computer and my old Ducati. Done.
Unfortunately we're at that age where we have our stuff, our parent's stuff as they downsize into assisted living and our college student's stuff because they don't have homes yet. If I could buy a kit, that would be tremendous. Sears was really onto something back in the day. We would have just bought an existing house but we are in an area with a lot of cash buyers and I still need a little mortgage. So, I bought a pretty lot and have to do it the hard way. I enjoy it (mostly).

tooyoungtobeold, if i was in my own I would like to build a house again. Maybe something under 1,000 sq ft on the main floor and a 2,000 or 3.000 sq ft shop. Better yer a 3,000 sq ft shop with 2 levels. I could live upstairs and tinker on the shop floor.
Maybenot, my knees might not hold up. I keep injuring one. It sucks.

Question for today: What are you most grateful for in life? Definitely my children...I have four happy and healthy adult children. Best accomplishment in my life.

Question for today: What are you most grateful for in life? Plenty, but “most” would have to be my health!

Overall, that would have to be my relatively good health, but my birth family and children come a close second.
But, to answer the question somewhat differently, at this point in my life, a friend who is currently keeping my sane and supporting me to navigate my tricky post SM exit.

Question for today: What are you most grateful for in life? I am MOST grateful for my sobriety. If I were still drinking, I can only imagine I'd be in a far worse mess than where I am now, in my present SM under repair. If not for sobriety, all my other blessings (my kids, family, job, health, etc.) would not exist.

My imagination. It gets me through boring times, it rocks me to sleep and it covers this dreary life in magic
