Here is your question for today. It is part 1 of a 2 part question. I’ll give you a hint- part 2 will be much more challenging to answer so you might want to think carefully about part 1 😁
Who are the 5 people you spend the most time with?

About yesterday's thankfulness, one of my therapist told me to make a list of 10 things that I appreciate everyday. After a person saves several of the daily lists, you can see there is more good in your life than bad. An example is most of the people in the USA drink the same Coke or Pepsi I buy and drink. Seinfeld wrote scripts with the same ballpoint pens I buy and use.
Today's question, I have the 5 people memorized.

Handy- hmm... so you won’t tell us who they are? Where’s the fun in that?? How about giving us a hint. Use terms like “wife”, “sister”, “friend I cycle with”- would that be ok??

In order of average time spent in a given month with 1 being the most: 1. W 2. Co-worker I share a work space with 3. Mother in law 4. Mother 5. Sister (I would move my father up to #3 from late Fall to Mid-Winter. In the summer, I have a different job, but #2 would still be held by a co-worker. Friends wouldn't even make the top 10 list as I rarely see them.)

sadkat, I wasn't thinking the top 5 but in general what I am thankful for. One to five, well some might be on the Internet (more like intelligent and helpful), one is a guy I occasionally work with, some people I do things with weekly, and one inlaw. By nature I don't depend much on other people. It feels as if I am imposing on them and "I should be mostly self sufficient." I know the self sufficient part doesn't always work.
Again, the above did not answer who I spend most of my time with.
Top 5 hours I spend~
1. alone doing my own things or fixing things.
1a. 4 to 8hrs a day on the Internet, some of that time on ILIASM.
1b. Some reading about how things work, the processes of discoveries related to science, ot medicine, how things were discovered or something historical. 1c. Some individual's travel blogs.
1d. Financial research on the Internet.
2. W because we are retired and both at home many hours a day.
3. Yoga friends a couple hours a week. 4. Some customers or a work associate in a similar business. 5. Someone I meet on a bike ride or when I stop for a drink.

1. Son 2. Sister 3. tirefire4. Best friend 5. Mother in law Honestly my long distance friends through Facebook would probably be #4, bumping MIL off the list but that’s communication-wise, not face-to-face unfortunately.

1. Most likely coworker 2. Son 3. Son 4. Husband 5. Tie between 2 best friends
I am curious to see what life looks like when I choose these in a few years. When my sons are gone and I am living alone this list will reflect who I reach out to be with consciously. Sounds fun!

Part 2 of the question:
Are these people enabling you or holding you back?

Part 2 of the question: Are these people enabling you or holding you back? In order of average time spent in a given month with 1 being the most: 1. W - holding me back 2. Co-worker I share a work space with - neither 3. Mother in law - neither 4. Mother - neither 5. Sister - neither 6. Father - neither (I would move my father up to #3 from late Fall to Mid-Winter. In the summer, I have a different job, but #2 would still be held by a co-worker. Friends wouldn't even make the top 10 list as I rarely see them.) My wife is literally the only person holding me back unless you count the indirect hindrance placed on me by financial and legal institutions. There is nobody else who has any direct action in my life to hold me back or enable me. Nobody to count on, but also nobody to blame.

Responding to both parts of question. Part 1 (assuming IRLtime spent)
1. Wife 2. 4 year old grandson 3. Three other grandkids (classifying as one). 4. Eldest daughter. 5. Son in law.
Part 2 -
No one holds me back or enables me except myself. If I chose to do or do not it is a choice I made based on the variables at the time. I think we often try to blame others for the path we freely chose. It is like we are gaslighting ourselves.

If you are talking about holding me back from the life I want to live...I am not sure how to answer that, because I need to figure our what I want to do.

I’m happy to report that all of my top 5 enrich my life and don’t hold me back in any way.

This question is one designed for self improvement. I think it is supposed to get you to think about how you want to live your life and striving to be as happy as you can be. After all, you only have one life to live. Lately, my guiding thought is wondering what regrets I would have if I knew I wouldn’t get another tomorrow. I don’t think there is a right or wrong answer to this question- just something to make you think.
For me- the 5 people I spend the most time with: My h A good friend A coworker My fitness instructor Another good friend.
The only person who holds me back is my h.
What we decide to do about people who hold us back is up to us but I think we should be brutally honest with ourselves about their impact on our lives.
