Yup! A little dietary discipline and some exercise is all it takes. All the exercise in the world won't keep ahead of piles of sugar and carbs. Once you learn that, and start liking and eating proper veggies and protein, you'll shed down to your ideal weight in probably less than a year. Easy for you to say! It's a bit more difficult when carbs are your one vice, one coping tool for the suckiness of adult life. Of course now that sex is back on the table there is one more option for soothing life's wounds and more motivation to avoid carbs to get more of it. Helen, carbs are EVERYONE'S vice. The truth is they're just not that much fun. They make you feel like crap. Sex can be a vice too, and I'd never suggest that anyone get too hot. That's just asking for problems.

I cut out soda years ago, and the sweets are in check, but bread... boy, do I know it if I order my burger without the bun! ("Protein style" if you're fortunate to live in "In-n-Out Burger" territory. They wrap it in lettuce instead - very tasty and messy, but leaves a guy craving carbs.)

DC, love me some 'animal style' burgers at In-n-Out!! A bit of humor relevant to this topic + audience... It's quite popular for people to "customize" their bumper stickers by removing the B and R, leaving "In-n-Out _urge_".

Good for you on all of it, Z! And by the sound of your user name, you like Zumba? Yay! Hopefully you found a form of exercise you really love because I think that's the key. I have to say that in trying to take my weight off and starting the exercise, I never expected to get as strong as I would and fall in love with fitness. It makes me feel like a badass. I more than like Zumba, mariposa43. I've been an instructor since 2008. LOL But, I'm learning to love a different part of fitness now. It's alwaysbeen fun for me, now it's a source of empowerment. My goal is build and enhance my strength and resilience (inner and outer). Lol, look at me assuming! That's awesome, Z. Wish I could take your class. :-) I get what you mean about finding a new goal. I decided today to revisit a favorite workout program of mine (DVDs I do at home) that I haven't done in awhile, but when I last did all 90 days of it, I felt like it empowered me and I got in touch with a part of me I wasn't sure was still there. And while it was a tough and intense workout I had moments of pure euphoria. It's time to do it again.

Off topic a bit, but seems like it has the attention of a few. It appears now I did not research this sufficiently way back then, because I watched the subcutaneous fat go, the 'belly' stayed (I had developed a slight paunch like all men) and the muscle also stayed. I believe now that the visceral was indeed coming off, and at some point the subcutaneous began also. I simply noticed the skin difference because that layer is thin.
However, I also did a lot of research about nutrition before this diet, In particular I recall this being very important: Carbohydrates are body's preferred source of energy, refined carbs are to be avoided as they are quick to absorb, then quick to convert and store as fat if not needed. There is a lot of confusion about the carbs, and they seem to be the vice of many. And fat tastes good, so does sugar. Myself I have a potato chip thing.
Easy to understand related to our site, maybe not so off topic after all. Lack of pleasure here, food there. Been going on with humans a long time. So has extolling the pleasure derived from plenty of exercise. But also there is the feeling after you just ate a large pizza and some ice cream. We all know which is easier to perform. On the other hand once more, all of us can shout at the top of our lungs, about how fantastic a good long lovemaking can be.
I've also noticed some members saying they have become more interested in the appearance factor, and self esteem. I am now inspired to return to my better diet again. Also to note the smaller portions much better, as pointed out by SmartKat, I forgot this.

However, carbs are not my "one" vice. The other is wine. Cheap, cheap, red wine. It never lets me down. I cannot have that either and this makes me sad. My homemade Mac-n-cheese is slap yo' mamma good and I miss it. No bread, no cheesy pasta dishes, no cheese, no pasta. No wine. No beer. NO LIQUOR YET. STILL NO SEX. I am asleep by 10 and up at 5 am. I am not positive I like the new me. WHAAAA!!!!! I guess I will wait and see what happens to the new me in a couple of months.

I have never been skinny but I have gained a lot of weight in the past 15 years, especially in the last few years. I didn't see the point in losing weight if there was nobody was going to appreciate it. It was not just the sexlessness, but also other causes of stress that contributed to my weight. Starting outsourcing was when I have begun to take better care of me and how I look. But I still need to do something about my weight. The feeling I have about my body had improved a lot since outsourcing. I felt very insecure initially, I feel more confident now.

Tam, there are lots of really good reasons for being fit and healthy other than sex. Sex is definitely a good one, but life is just easier and more fun when you're fit and hot.

Creel - when you're fit and hot, it is harder to be loyal to a refuser. Been there, done that. I was climbing the walls. I still do - but it's a little harder with the extra weight :/

I didn't see the point in losing weight if there was nobody to appreciate it. But who is the person looking in the mirror? Perhaps you should remember that you are indeed very important, and if you appreciate it, it's a big big deal.

I still do - but it's a little harder with the extra weight :/ Is it harder to be loyal because you have more or better opportunities to stray? I was thinking everyday life in general is easier just because you're lighter and can move better. Extra weight really pounds your joints when you start getting older (like me).

I know, but I felt depressed before. Now I have got something to look forward to and that is the motivation I need.

I am a complete carb and sugar addict. I definitely use food for comfort, but in the end it leaves me feeling like crap. I read somewhere that you have to keep promises made to yourself, and based on that I have failed myself for years, I don't know what is wrong with me..I seem to make excuses not to exercise when I know I should, I make excuses so I can eat crap, and I have excuses for why I stay in this freaking sm... I have to just get off my ass and do something that would make me feel better Inside and out.
