Independence Day
I texted a friend and said Happy 4th of July. My friend texted back and said Happy Independence Day. When I read those words the word Independence hit me like a ton of bricks. That one word is so meaningful this year. I set myself free from my awful marriage. A year ago if someone told me I would be divorced in a year I would have said NO WAY! IMPOSSIBLE!! Nobody knows what the future holds. Everyday is a new day with new opportunities. So I wanted to tell everyone Happy 4th of July and may you work towards a Happy Independence in whatever that looks like for you.

greatcoastal, I continue to be impressed at your art. Not only is it skilled, but as a photographer they also strike me as being technically excellent.

This was my second train that I had ever painted, I feel I have improved since then. My seven years as an Architectural Illustrator, and years of looking at hundreds of thousands of other paintings helps me understand balance, depth, and proportions. A fellow artist politely pointed out to me that the signal pole was an after thought. He noticed I left the shadow out! He was right too! I fixed that on my original. Fellow artists can be very picky, I am my worst critic!

My Independence Day is July 6; it is the day I moved out on my own. BBG, congrats to you on your independence! It really does give this holiday a different meaning.... GC, nice painting! Best to all in their journey.

Fellow artists can be very picky, I am my worst critic! Hmmm, yes. We are most critical of our own craft. There are some very successful photographers whose work makes me cringe... while I'm touring their high-rent galleries. I can't argue their success, even when I know they could have taken a better picture. In your work, I noticed the keystone on the vertical lines, which gives the viewer the impression of not only a low perspective, but also standing close to the engine. I didn't notice the missing shadow on the pole. One of the earlier trains you posted, I would have sworn was a photograph, not a painting. One of the marina paintings as well. Since I'm already on a tangent, I'm reminded of a photo being analyzed for authenticity. This guy had done PhD-level analysis on the pixel values, image compression, and metadata layout to establish that it had, indeed, been manipulated. Whereas I simply observed that the angle of the sun on a passing aircraft was impossibly opposite of those on the ground. Details - you never know who'll notice what.

As I understand it, back in the day the citizens became rather pissed off about the concept of taxation without representation. - Rather similar to a dysfunctional marriage.

Best to all in their journey. How long has it been? A year or longer? It will be three years this year. Time has passed quickly, it still feels like just last year...
