They weren’t married (she declined 3 times)... and lived in separate homes.
But a Canadian court decided that his pattern of generosity (e.g., paying off her house) and gifts over 10 years established a precedent. Alimony was initially awarded for life, but reduced to 10 years on appeal.
Apparently, rich dudes need prenup agreements for girlfriends!
"If" you are living in this blokes jurisdiction, and "if" your financial situation is exactly the same as this blokes, and "if" all facts pertaining to the matter are identical to you, then this example in the video is relevant to you.
But if you are NOT in that jurisdiction, and if your situation is NOT pretty much exactly the same as yours, then it ain't relevant.
It is best to get your information from a lawyer in YOUR jurisdiction, taking into account what the law is in YOUR jurisdiction.
What the law is in Canada - or Bumfuck Idaho - ain't especially relevant to you and your unique situation.
Baza, sometimes I think some folks are just crazy. Lots of people earning something more than a living wage in the US and sheer poverty in many undeveloped countries, make these rare alimony payments seem unjust to most poor people. Living on less than $100 a month in some countries and we have people getting $420,000 for once-upon-a-time being in a relationship that ended.
Make me dictator long enough so I can pass some laws that cant be rescinded for 50 years and I will lower medical costs, get rid of corporate welfare, the lobbyists and no going from government service and right into a company that always gets the expensive over priced government contracts.
You don't have those issues in your country, DO YOU?

petrushka: Just attended a lecture on local history. Apparently the Presbyterian Scottish refugees who settled here called a 'frolic', what the Amish would call a 'barn raising'. First a working bee, then dancing and feasting.
