People have believed some strange things through history. Vegetable Lamb of Tartary
This topic came up today on "The Hidden Brain" radio talk about how untrue things enter into the main stream.

Just saw an ad for birth control product. Along with the ad came the declaration that today, Friday the 23rd is Vagina Appreciation Day. The spokesperson (a woman) said the best way to show your appreciation was to have an orgasm. Since today is almost over I will have to save my appreciation for another day.

Solar System Facts; How fast are you going while you are sleeping and feel as if you are stationary? Earth spins on its axis CCW @ 1670 km/h 1,038 mp/h at the Equator, slower toward the poles. Earth orbits around the sun CCW @ 107,826 km/h 67,000 mp/h Mars travels around the Sun at nearly 120700 km/h 75,000 mp/h which results in a larger orbit. Our Solar System travels around the center of the Milky Way @ 811,110 km/h 504,000 mp/h It takes about 200 million years for the Sun to make one complete orbit within our galaxy. My question is does our orbital position within the Milky Way influence ice ages? How fast is the Milky Way moving through space? That depends on a person’s perspective so some answers are at hypertextbook.com/facts/1999/PatriciaKong.shtmlThe Milky Way is heading towards the Andromeda Galaxy @468,000 km/h 290,801.7 mp/h Measurements, confirmed by the Cosmic Background Explorer satellite in 1989 and 1990, suggest that our galaxy and its neighboring galaxies, the so-called Local Group, are moving at 600 kilometers per second (1.34 million miles per hour) in the direction of the constellation Hydra." Red shift @2,100, 000 km/h 5,000 to 300,000 tons of space dust and dirt falls on the Earth every day. And you might think not much happened today.

Stephen Hawking “Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious. And however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at. It matters that you don't just give up.”
I also wanted to correct my previous post 5,000 to 300,000 tons of space dust and dirt falls on the Earth every day. to 5,200 tons of space dust and dirt falls on the Earth every year according to space .com. The higher number is suggested to be the amount of dust entering Earth's atmosphere but most burns up because of friction with the air.

By accident I moved the curser over one of my cartoon posts and left clicked it. To my surprise and delight the very small drawing expanded to fill the screen. Not what I set out to do but I'll take it.

Easy for him to say, he wasn’t going to fall flat on his face after tripping over the cat and break his wrist in the process! I say: always look where you are going, always look where you’re driving! I was looking out the right side window of my car one day because I didn’t want to hit a bus coming out of the bus terminal, and rear-ended the car in front of me that had stopped for a pedestrian crossing (barely a fender bender, but still). Lesson learned! Don’t listen to Stephen!

My point about “Remember to look up at the stars..." was related to things that are actually going on with in the Earth and in space.
The earth has a liquid core that moves and a magnetic field that protects living life from cosmic rays. I guess we would all be dead without it.
The Earth rotates on its axis and travels around our sun. Our sun travels around the Milky way Galaxy. The Milky Way Galaxy also moves through space.
My two points, a giant magnetic event allows life to happen and moving through space around 1.5 million miles am hour are two thing most people do not consider. I would venture a great majority of people do not consider that the sun is moving around the Milky Way Galaxy. Forward motion and Centrifugal force (orbits} are a wonderful thing.
Tamara68 I would say: listen to great minds but don't let that stop using your own mind!
I agree. I worked with boys that had the attitude that they learned from their own mistakes. They rarely learned from other people's mistakes and felt they were entitled to an almost unlimited amount of personal mistakes and everyone else should accept them. I told them if everyone had to learn to "invent the wheel" life would advance so slow we would be in the stone age. I tried to get the point across that negative outcomes from past history repeats itself, so learning from other people's mistakes would save a lot of grief.
The boys stuck by their "I have to make my own mistakes."

Ok, ok: I DO know a metaphor when it bites me in the arse - I know perfectly well what Hawking was talking about.
I just let my inner Terry Pratchett loose - picture it, Hawking - what reason did he have to look at his feet. He probably spent most of his time looking at the universe in his head.
Most amazing human being. f.w.i.w.

With Windows 10 update 20H2 that stops installing at 61% after 8 tries, all I know is "I give up." I read a little about the 20H2 update and decided I wouldn't be using the features so why load it!
I did learn that "Mirilax" (polyethylene glycol 3350) is a powder that is used in a colonoscopy prep. It (different number) is also found in several things you use every day: toothpaste, skin creams, Covid 19 vaccine, and many more products.

I was watching the news and some guys were throwing small axes at a wood target indoors. I have been staying home a lot because this indoor ax throwing place is in my home town. I never expected my town had an ax throwing hall, alley, range or what ever it is called generically.
I wonder what ax throwers earn per hour and where do they work, throwing axes, that is. will we see police with axes instead of pistols?
