...for a nanosecond, anyway! Semi-amusing anecdote - Recently returned from a family vacation at the beach. Sort of a mini family reunion with my mother, siblings and most of our children. We rented a not-quite large enough house a few blocks from the sand. Tight quarters meant I would be sharing a bed with my wife for the first time in years. I knew better than to expect any change in behavior, but there is always that tiny voice in the back of my head whispering " maybe...". I can still hear it faintly when our last remaining child at home heads off for a sleepover, and we have the house to ourselves. True to form, my wife spends much of the vacation time nearby but not really with me. She is careful to maintain a safe buffer between us in bed. Whatever, I'm enjoying being up at dawn and getting down to the beach for some very long walks. One evening during happy hour I'm standing in the great room and I feel a familiar hand scratching the small of my back, followed by a head on my shoulder. What is this?!? Just as that little voice starts clearing its throat to speak, I turn and...it's our daughter showing a bit of affection to ole' Dad. Gave her a big hug, but almost burst out laughing...at myself.

Hopefully you were in a good snorkeling cove I have seen so much more snorkeling than diving. The loving touch of a daughter is just as Devine!

Cute story and a good reminder that hope is the enemy.

Cute story and a good reminder that hope is the enemy. You might appreciate reading about the difference in "Hope" and "false hope".

Cute story and a good reminder that hope is the enemy. You might appreciate reading about the difference in "Hope" and "false hope". In a SM, mathematically there is no distinction. If there were, there would be a whole forum section entitled "Turn Arounds" or "Success".

Hope is a powerful thing.
It can keep you going when the outlook is bleak.
It can keep you trapped when you should have escaped.
Rely on it with caution.

"Hope" - backed up with a solid plan of how that hope might be realised - is a good thing.
"Hope" - not backed up with a solid plan of how that hope might be realised - not so much.

"Hope" - backed up with a solid plan of how that hope might be realised - is a good thing. "Hope" - not backed up with a solid plan of how that hope might be realised - not so much. "Hope deferred maketh the heart sick." ~ Prov. 13.12
