Well NC governor has decreed masks are mandatory in public places, effective immediately. I'm not surprised. People here have been largely ignoring the guidelines for safety re:Covid19. And confirmed cases are increasing. Perhaps because of increased testing or perhaps because of the choices I see being made to ignore masks and safe distancing. Most likely other measures such as sanitizing are also being ignored by these individuals as well.

Most likely other measures such as sanitizing are also being ignored by these individuals as well. In Raleigh this week and I have observed that NC compliance with guidelines is nearly non-existent. Restaurant workers wearing masks on their chin, mouth and nose uncovered. Very few customers in public venues with masks. My comparison is with Ohio. It is not that hard to wear a mask. Yes some people complain that they can't breathe wearing one but I call bullshit. My asthmatic daughter works 12 hours in a hospital wearing one and she still breathes. If someone's lungs are so compromised that they cannot wear a mask then they should not be out and about in the pollen and pollution.

My county is back to the county all-time high of Cvid19 cases. The case number is only 10 new cases per day but it was down to 1 or 2 new cases per day a month ago.
People in and around the medical field or medical establishments wear masks but masks are less prevalent in the other work and business arenas.

Unfortunately, we usually NEED laws to force people to do stuff that's somewhat inconvenient, like not going 100 MPH down the road-or wearing a mask.

It really is quite amazing at times to see this sort of thing play out. Sort of like in states where there is a large concentration of anti-vax proponents. And I would almost bet before we are done with Covid19 there will be large contingent of drivellers who will want some kind of compensation for having been inconvenienced by being sick or dying. But they will be nowhere to be found when it comes to assigning responsibility for being a super spreader.

worksforme2 I just hope that when the covid-19 vaccine comes out (and that cannot happen too soon) people don't become jump onto the anti- vaxxer wagon for THAT!

Our local department store opened, 150 years old and counting. We took tea in their cafe, a fusion of okd world charm and new seperation 2m and wash your hands modernism. It was a delight to get bsck to something almost like normal.

So much for mandatory masks in public. I went out yesterday evening on a supplies run. I needed some screen wire to repair a large hole in the wire on my back porch. Many in Lowes were not wearing masks as they purchased building materials. When I come across people without masks I give them an extra wide berth. Then on the way home I thought I might buy some fried chicken at a local restaurant. As I proceeded toward the drive thru I looked at the row of windows facing outside. I did not see 1 person in any of booths wearing a mask. Looks like NC is in for a long, hard slog with Covid19.

I assume everyone is an infected moron. That way I give them a wide berth, wear protection and hand sanitise when I get home. I am also stocking up for the second spike. My pantry runneth over. Been years since I had a KFC by the way, never got the taste for it.

Been years since I had a KFC by the way, never got the taste for it. KFC is a distant 3rd on the chicken franchise choices for me. I much prefer Popeyes or Bojangles. Both are spicy with Popeyes being the most spicy. Also KFC is pretty greasy, at least in the US. The other 2 choices are crisper.

worksforme2 , I’m an advocate for masks as a practical measure to prevent spreading it when you don’t even know you have it, but you can’t really eat with one on, so that gets an exemption here once you’re seated. They only let restaurants operate at half capacity, so every other table is closed for distancing. Here are a couple interesting visuals that reinforce distancing and masks, preferably both. Of course these are done using bacteria because they can be cultured visibly, but you could reasonably expect similar scale of results with a virus. FWIW, the latest claim is that 50% of people who contract it have no symptoms, but spread it.

I am a mask wearer. I also sanitize or wash my hands as often as advised. I have to think about not touching my face, especially when I am working and perspiring. UGH! I slip up in that department.
The only trouble with a mask is my glasses fog up with some masks. The cloth masks get damp and then my glasses really fog up. Not as much fogging with a paper mask for some reason.
Nice visual Dry Creek.

DryCreek....I agree you can't eat with a mask on. But if you are not eating yet you could wear the mask. And there were no empty booths, no masks on no anyone and less than 2 feet between diners who sat back to back. Pretty apparent to me a substantial % of the population does not consider Covid19 a threat. There are 5 characteristics common to people who have died from Covid19. I have 4 of them, so yeah I follow all the CDC guidelines and more. I am trying to put off the "dirt nap" for as long as I can.
