Ironhamster posted about the FCA suing Match.com over profiting from scammers who put up fake love interest profiles on this particular site. Unfortunately the same corp. also owns POF and a couple more sites. So it isn't farfetched to consider the same scams may well be in place there. Somewhat less likely on POF I think because so many of the females there are shall we say, challenged, when it comes to physical appearance. That may also be true for the males, but I couldn't say.
A fair # of ladies here have voiced their poor experience and negative feelings when it comes to dating sites and really, the prospect of dating in general. A number of the males here have also apparently experienced a cold shutter when considering the prospect of dating in their future. I have experienced a # of less than stellar meets and dates at POF. I have also had some pretty good ones. But a lot of my frustration and my unsuccessful forays has to do with my location. I live 40-50 miles in any direction from a large city, basically farming country. So my pool of prospects is pretty limited when the running joke it that there are more cows than people in my county. Never the less since my separation I have managed to coach a few ladies into my bed. But I digress from my real theme.
Why does it seem that dating is more difficult now than it was say 20-30 yrs. ago? I have a couple thoughts.
It seems as a culture we are a good deal more picky and selective than we were a decade or 2 ago. We also seem to be far less forgiving when a prospective partner doesn't get it just right. There's this check list of "must haves" to even be considered. Then there is the often stated unwillingness to "settle" for less than perfect. And from a personal standpoint it seems to me many people bring a generally inflated sense of their worth and desirability to the table. Maybe I am guilty of some of this, but I hope not so much.
But why do you folks think that, at least at this forum, dating seems to get such a bad rap?
