I did an exam paper on the rise of fascism too, many years ago and a load of reading since. To me what's happened in America is a combination of Germany and Italy. Fascism has its basis in corporatism, demagoguery, creating scapegoats out of an 'other', intolerance, and a flawed establishment not taking the funny little demagogue seriously, letting him harness the party machinery on the basis they think they can control him, and then finding when he's in power that nope, he meant all that mad shit he said and now he has the means to make it happen.
Doesn't look good.

Well this was my first post! Fortunately for me, Fascism -- at least the brand Hitler and Mussolini made popular -- also has its roots in Marxist socialism. Why do you think they called it the National Socialist Workers Party of Germany? NAtionalsoZIalist. Lithium92, you might do well to read Hitler's book. He explains it all very clearly. Even says there's no difference between National Socialism and the "Red" party. He envied Lenin, Molotov, and Stalin for their brutality. Feats, despite his best efforts, he was never able to match. National Socialism is strictly forbidden in my home.
