Have to agree with saarinista, money is a good servant but a bad master. The writer Terry Pratchett had a theory about rich men's shoes. He said rich men paid more for a pair of shoes but less on shoes. High quality classic leather shoes are expensive but last longer than cheap trendy ones.

We are having the house recarpeted and need to clear rooms. I discovered my wife's secret hoard of shoes and handbags! We are talking boxes here, above and beyond the ones in her wardrobe. So this is where the money goes!?

Lessingham, my W had 50+ pair of shoes and maybe 8 to 10 purses. I know a woman that has 10 or more $300 purses.
I don't think this type of buying is OK-normal but it happens.
