The referenced article seems to tell a story of - initially - 4 very unhappy people.

The self centered bloke.
The sacrificial chick.
Kid 1 being stifled.
Kid 2 being stifled.
An altogether unhappy situation for the 4.

A while later .........
The chick eventually grabs the situation by the throat and off loads the bloke.
He is - as far as I can see, probably still unhappy.
Chick seems happy.
Kid 1 seems happy.
Kid 2 seems happy.

Great result.

Actually, it would have been a good result had only 1 out of the 4 transitioned from unhappy to happy.
2 out of the 4 would have been an excellent outcome.
3 out of the 4 is fantastic.
