I totally agree with you my friend. Except that you did not need to add "Alone". Although the alone does add another layer of suckiness. I sadly shake my head when the younger crowd says "go out and meet someone" or "get a hobby" or "get a pet (worst idea ever)". They are so clueless to the reality of getting up each day knowing that our bodies are betraying us, getting up each morning knowing that we are declining with age, getting up each morning knowing that our financial health gets worse each day. Then, to add insult to injury, the politicians (aka lying bastards) will promise to 'take care of the senior citizens' which is an euphemisam for 'stick it to the old goats'. Golden years my ass. Also venting. |

Also venting. I hear you, Jim, and agree with you, especially about the politicians/government. I think if I’d been happily married, and had good memories to look back on, or had a loving companion to spend this time with, it would not seem so bad, although all those things you mentioned take a lot to get used to. I’m not sure I’ll ever get used to aging, but I am more resigned to it than I was 3-years ago. Still sucks though, and please feel free to vent anytime. We all need that release at times. |

I think that the "growing" part of the statement is key. There's no reason why your personal develop cannot continue to grow as you age. There's a difference between "getting old" and "growing old". You are a "grower" Sister Caris . |

It’s a sad irony I’m partnered (not too seriously) with a younger man whose psych meds mess with his sexual interest. I love him on many levels but sex is - AGAIN - a huge mismatch. Whatever. It is what it is. His company is better than no company. It is not what I had hoped for. I’m not disappointed- I see and know that I’m choosing his friendship over a romance. Right now, that is my choice. I’m okay with it. For now. |

Yes, It SUCKS, but
I had RINGSIDE seats to the end of an unhappy marriage to "death do us part". He was MISERABLE, losing his cognition, no filter left, telling as it was. She was MISERABLE giving end of life nursing care. You know what they say - Familiarity breeds contempt.
Sometimes I wonder if end of life nursing care is worth going thru 30 plus years of miserable marriage.
SO yes it SUCKs, but the grass was NOT greener on the other side.
Now meeting someone you can spend your life with - that's PRICELESS, that's where you may find GOD (if there is one) has a really bad sense of humor
