If you were very close to someone, and you’re now going to be spending a lot less time together, would you eventually forget them? And if so, how long would it take? I’m being purposefully vague. It depends. I've been close to lots of people and cut off ties. I never FORGET the people, but I stop thinking about them very often. It depends on the situation.

I suppose like tiredoftears said, it really depends on what kind of relationship you had with the other person. Every 6 months or maybe once a year I think about my 1st wife. Not romantically or emotionally, I just wonder if she ever regrets having divorced me. Is her health still mostly good? I think about the couples we used to socialize with. Again I only think of them perhaps a couple times a year. After the divorce none of them made much effort to keep in touch with either of us. Unless I become demented it's unlikely I will forget them, I just don't think about them much.
