My oldest daughter’s first day on her first job was today. Internship at the zoo! I’m so proud! That is really cool! I remember taking a trip with an evolutionary biology class to the zoo. Behind the scenes at a zoo is SO interesting. I hope she enjoys the internship!

My first job was at a dairy farm from age 13 or so. I would finish school then head down there and help with evening milking.
After a year or so I WAS the evening milking....then I graduated to doing all day Sunday there, morning milking then take each tractor out of the shed, wash, polish the bodywork, grease all the grease points then put it away again...so a bit of painting or cleaning and some feeding out then do evening milk and finish by loading the milk truck. The boss loved his tractors being clean and shiny and the maintenance bills went down because all pivots were greased weekly, the yard was always tidy and he got Sunday mornings back to sleep in.... I had pocket money and a sense of purpose in life. We moved away when I was 15...I was pretty sad about it, and honestly if we hadn't moved I would almost certainly still be working there....I ran into he old boss years later and he told me flat out that if I ever came back my job would be there for me!
That was one of the happiest periods of my life...
