I've had a lot of problems with handovers for my son. My ex is fine with asking for extra days for himself but does not even want to give me my fair holiday entitlement. Hmmm it's almost like he's a person who doesn't give a shit about anyone else.
Put this in context of I'm American and so is all my family and but I live in England. So my family has to make a lot of effort and expense to see my son and he's not very accommodating of that, while I try to allow my son to see his family if they come to visit (his family mostly lives in Scotland, so not exactly around the corner, but much closer).
Yesterday I was supposed to get my son at noon (it's a school holiday here this week) but he asked for extra time because his friend was visiting. To be fair not just any old friend, an old family friend, whose mother supported me in the desperate first week when my son had trouble breastfeeding (she was a nurse) and who died last year. So I have a lot of time for this family. But, but, but - this was my time and I wanted it.
So I collected my son and said I'd send him back when the friend arrived for an hour or two - they planned to go for a drink at a pub I love - so I said "You know what I might join you for a drink..." And my ex was quite excited and said please do!
And I did and it was good, it was ok. My ex is still drinking the kool-aid of the far right and he's still a racist piece of shit, but he didn't spend toooo much time talking about that and I didn't take the bait.
I told my partner I went for the drink when he got home and he was pleasantly surprised. (I love my man!! No jealousy just concern for me and understanding I wanted to see this old friend too).
My ex also sort of dropped a few hints that I'm basically in a relationship with a guy just like him. Let him think what he likes! On the surface they're in similar jobs (they're both academics) and they're both quite geeky and they're both cheap (I do like a frugal man). But that's where it ends.
My ex is full of hate for all kinds of people. My ex is selfish and critical. My ex couldn't be emotionally or physically supportive. My partner is such a nice guy. More than once I've said how grateful I am that he's so nice because the sex is sooo hot I'd be hanging around even if he wasn't.
Today I send my property division proposal to my ex. Wish me luck!
