"I have not really decision where i want to live yet. But with the right woman in my life. I won't want to live far away from her. As i don't really like long distance relationship. So meeting you and we can decide together, maybe close with 20 or 30 minutes drive. I promise to keep things exciting. A step beyond consistently reminding someone you love them is literally taking action to keep the spark alive. Spontaneous candle lite dinners. A bath running when they get home from work. A weekend getaway for no reason. When we start a fire. We cannot walk out of the room and expect it to keep burning forever. We need to continue to add logs to it and to stoke it. If we keep doing that. It will never go out. The problems arise when we stop giving it the attention it requires in order to continue burning. Always keep stoking your fire. I appreciate your writing me. And i want this to work and for us to keep it real. Do have a beautiful day."
This is an example of emails I received from Alrik. He told me he lived in Connecticut and was coming to live in a city near me in the next month. Told me english wasn't his first language. Sent me pics of this handsome guy doing all sorts of active things etc. Had pictures of his Mother and sister. I wanted to believe him but ultimately I can't. I think I have narrowly escaped an internet scam. My sister has a friend who lost 4000 pounds to an internet lover whom she had never met because of problems coming to her country.
What are you thoughts fellow SM escapees? I sent him an email saying that i wanted to wait until he came to Canada before I committed anything to him, my heart included. He just wrote me back and said I was rude and have a nice life. ? ALL this because he saw my picture and made assumptions about me. WTF I am so confused.

Sounds like you dodged a scammer. I wouldn't put too much stock in his response to you setting boundaries and limits. Also, who gets that upset over someone saying they'd like to meet first before deciding on dating or a relationship??? sheesh. Sorry this happened to you, and hope the POF search finds you someone genuine, and local

This guys has some pretty good lines when it comes to romancing the ladies long distance. I have experienced something similar with a couple ladies from other countries(Brazil and Italy). But both the women(?) who contacted me were up front in that they were looking for an older, established and financially stable man to make it possible for them to relocate to the US. No money request initially but clearly a sugar daddy was implied. Good thing for me I don't have tons of money laying around or I might have 2-6' beauties here at my Carolina cabana. This does smell pretty fishy from the initial read. Or it could be that this person (if real) is really immature thinking that a couple conversations constitutes enough history or information to change countries for a potential love interest. Either way I think you are better off having dodged this guy. I could regale you with numerous tales of the bat s*it crazy or immature women I have met on POF.

I get lots of scammers, mostly from other countries, but more than a few from the states. Hard to tell really where they are actually from. I will try to verify as best I can. One girl claimed to be from Arkansas, so I asked her questions about the Razorback football team. Anyone from Arkansas has a strong opinion of the state of Arkansas football. Another lady claimed to be from Kansas, so I said “Rock, chalk..” A true Kansan will say either “Jayhawk!” or “Fuck you, I’m a Wildcat!” But nancyb, you were smart to make sure to stick to someone actually in Canada or in your province. If that’s Ontario, I would stick to your half of the province. If you’re in Toronto or Hamilton, don’t mess with anyone in Thunder Bay. Since I live in Orlando, where we hear different varieties of Spanish, nationality makes little difference. Had a nice chat with an Ecuadorian lady this morning. And yes, she identified Florida landmarks.

He sounds like a fake who uses lines designed to hook naive women who think life is like a romance novel. I bet he’ll ask for a loan unless you are wise enough to block him.

Dodged a scammer. For nearly certain. Keep that good discernment going on, nancyb!

yep, scammer, scammer, scammer.
If you go back to his original profile (and if it's gone already, that's more likely a scammer) or his original message, pick out some unique phrases and run it through Google - you may see it many other places.

One thing I have noticed on most dating sites - many of the people who message me have the same home town listed. One has Independence (either MO or KS), another has Frostproof, FL.
I have never been to Independence, either in MO or KS. But I lived near Frostproof once. While Frostproof is a pretty town, it is too small to have that many attractive women of the same age living there.
I am getting real sick of all these messages from fake people. Gonna fall back on my football days and start blocking people.

Using that fire analogy, I would add this.
A byproduct of burning logs is disgusting dirty ash and soot which has to be regularly removed or it will build up and choke the fire.
You remove the ash, bag it up, put it in the trash and get rid of it.
This "Alrik" bloke is the ash/soot.
Fuck him off.

Yeah, keep your head when it comes to this kind of stuff - he's not real, or he's looking to trap someone quick or who knows what. It's not good though. Glad your instinct says he was no good.

Well I Alrik was undoubtably a scam and I know that now. So glad my intuition knew that something was not quite right but I must admit I can see how if you are lonely or vulnerable enough it would reel you in. That's terrible shit, messing with someone's emotions. The entire online dating experience has been a little distasteful and I've only been at it 3 weeks. Would it be to my benefit to join a paid site or all they all just the same . Lonely folks looking to shag.....LMAO

I did meet some genuine men online. Two or three out of 30 something men from all different sites. I felt like meeting someone nice that I was attracted to was a needle in a haystack

Yes, it is a shot in the dark. Ever hopeful back into the fray... If you google his text, you probably would find it somewhere else... One of my friends was 'lucky" to get several messages from good looking sweethearted very lonely widowers (with young daughter)...all were very financially secure and often worked abroad. But did not have smartphone and camera on their computer...😁.... I googled their texts and found all of them blacklisted on various dating sites...

The entire online dating experience has been a little distasteful and I've only been at it 3 weeks. Would it be to my benefit to join a paid site or all they all just the same . Lonely folks looking to shag.....LMAO Totally unscientific response........Meeting and dating a # of women off POF I have had several conversations with ladies who have used paid sites. They had no better luck and experienced the same disappointments or deal breakers in men there as the unpaid sites. Some men were just players looking for sex, others just wanted to sext or role play. Like baseballgirl my experience has been that it's really a role of the dice every time you open the site. And it seems following a divorce both sexes are so much more picky and demanding of near perfection in a dating prospect. It took me a fair amount of time to learn to discern how women communicated to be able to read between the lines as to whether a woman was really interested in dating or was just fishing for compliments, or seeking affirmation she was still physically able to attract a man's attention(desirable). And a lot of people are just bored and looking for something to do. They really have no intention of dating.
