I know for a fact that if I got divorced today, I would be nearly debt-free in 5 years. Financially, I would be MUCH better off alone because I can do without many things. I can set goals and adhere to a budget. I can occupy myself without spending much money.

My W has no concept of the difference between a need and a want. Her income doesn't support her lifestyle. She gets bored easily and then wants to go out and do things that cost a small fortune. She is also incapable of saying no to anyone else but me: Her friends want a night on the town? Sure, be right there! The neighbor kid (and every other kids we know) has a school fundraiser? Sure, we'll buy a bunch of stuff we don't need with money we don't have!
