I have an offer letter, and an email account with the company, and an electronic timesheet...and I haven't been able to start yet, because my security clearance hasn't come through yet. I thought I would be starting on May 5 (a week ago), so I was mentally ready for that. And now, a delay.
A security clearance is an asset that can make me more employable, and this job sounded like a really good fit for me, so I'm holding on and waiting. But I have not been in this situation in a long time. One more week, and I might start to look for some job I could do in the interim, like working at the supermarket or something. I get unemployment benefits, and my parents are willing to help me. But I hate to ask them for money at my age. I have some savings, but sooner or later, if this goes on too long, I could be in a financial bind.
Even if I didn't need the money, I haven't been this bored in decades. So, one thing I did was to start a free online SharePoint course. So far, I have finished one module and it's pretty easy. SharePoint is something that could do me a lot of good at pretty much any of the kinds of jobs I would hold. I already sort of know it, so I'm looking to get a piece of paper that says I know it.
And as far as dating goes...I was planning to wait until I had been working at my job for about two weeks, and then start an account on OKCupid or Plenty of Fish, and just do some practice dating for a couple of months until I think I can really handle dating...and then start an account at one of the better paid sites (like eHarmony) to look for a better level of possible partners, and see if I can find a real partner again.
Of course, with the delay to starting my job, that delays the dating, too. So, now I'm thinking I might start an account with one of the throwaway free dating sites this weekend. If it's just practice dating, I probably won't meet anybody who would really work out...so it won't matter that I'm not working yet.
