Good article, and a very real threat to be aware of.
I'll take it a step further than restraining orders... false claims of domestic violence. Take it seriously if threatened with it.
I've been told that when cops get called for domestic violence, somebody's almost certainly going into custody. Unless there's visible evidence to the contrary, bias is against the man. Even an unsubstantiated arrest that yields no charges will have long-lasting implications on everything from employment to apartment rental, let alone security clearances. Surely child custody.

Not to throw politics into this,but... have you noticed all the sexual allegations that pop up just as people run for public office? The dirt that comes up from 40 yrs ago? How much of this comes up in marriages once the "D" word is spoken all around the world, especially here in America.
The devastating tragic, unjust, long term affects, part is when these kind of allegations are brought upon an innocent person. And will most likely never be defended.
Makes you fear ever getting married again.

I know people, have read stories, and have my own stories, about being blocked at the doorway, or blocked in a room. The only way you are going to get by is to make contact with them, no matter how slight, the've got you. You assaulted them!! I'm sure there is plenty of "information" out there on how to use the system to your advantage.

During the separation phase of my 1st divorce my 1st X attempted what I believe was to be an extortion of more child support money. She suddenly refused my visitation weekend saying she feared I would leave the state with my sons. This after numerous weekends and holidays with them. Unfortunately for my X I had one of the best attorneys in the state who quickly recognized what was going on. My attorney phoned her attorney and advised him there would be no support paid until visitation was restored. I had my sons the following weekend. It's unfortunate but women are notorious for this sort of unsavory behavior as a negotiating tactic to control and extort the most favorable outcome during a divorce. And when it comes to domestic violence men will automatically be assumed to be the guilty party. And guilty or not it definitely can/will work against a man in the future.
