I'm sorry - I know first hand how that sucks.

I had a terrible weekend. Wife was in full on B**** mode all day Saturday and most of Sunday. Everything I said was interpreted in the most negative way possible, so I spent most of the weekend avoiding her. I am actually glad to be back at work. Its partly the time of year. Her birthday is next week, and every year at this time her self esteem takes a nosedive, and as a result, she reads negative/hurtful intent into everything I say. Since I have only ever been supportive to her around her birthday, this has to be some fallout from her first marriage (her first husband was/is the very definition of A**hole) I just wish I didn't have to feel the consequences of his actions. This will be a hell week for me ... wish me luck. Sorry to here that, I know how it feels to be the punching bag. My wife's mother was bad news, and she never had a woman in her life to fill the void. I dread the week leading up to Mothers Day because I'm a target.

What the hell? I know birthdays can really suck, but IMHO, it's the responsibility of the birthday person to find a way to cushion the blow. For my 40th, I had a massage and a makeover. For my 50th, I went to the Bahamas. (I saved up for that trip for 2 years. I *can* plan ahead when I'm sufficiently motivated, ha ha!)
These refuser women expect so much from their men. I guess another one of your duties is to comfort their egos when they have something like a birthday?
Tell me again 1) where do I find a man who will go all out for me, the way the men here on ILIASM will for these women; and 2) what do I have to do, how do I have to change, to be the woman who gets all this caretaking...instead of being the woman I am, the woman who just assumes she'll have to do it herself?

Sorry about that! Those weeks are tough! I usually went with avoidant behavior Monday through Wednesday, then on Thursday I reset him with his favorite meal (acts of service) and sat and watched tv for two hours (quality time). This became a weekly pattern.
Good luck!

For example - I take off work for my W birthday - Every year. I spend the day with her at the movies - lunch -dinner and anything else she wants to do. Along with a gift. 1 big - 1 smaller. My birthday (granted it's in Late Dec. ) We went to her friends place. She asked me if I had a good time. Ah no.

@lostinthewoods I feel horrible for you. I just have no words when someone acts like your w did.
We cannot control the aging process, but OMG we can certainly wake up HAPPY to be alive for another year! Sheesh.
Grumble, grumble...dang harpy fishwives/fish-husbands. Now, I'm ticked off.
*Stomps out to find coffee

OK, birthday party for December-born ILIASMers! Want to just book a couple of suites at a resort? I liked the Bahamas when I went before...that's a perfect place for December birthdays!
