I had a terrible weekend. Its partly the time of year. Her birthday is next week, and every year at this time her self esteem takes a nosedive, and as a result, she reads negative/hurtful intent into everything I say. This will be a hell week for me ... wish me luck. Sending HUGE luck to you. I dont get it. I had a crappy morning yesterday. It wasn't for lack of trying on the part of my spouse and kids, but kids were tired and cranky, and as a result, mini-terrorists. And our brunch plans at a fave restaurant resulted in cold food for me and a poop-stained toilet seat that I sat on because I'd left my glasses at home. And then I cried. I didn't complain, I didn't want to get tough with the kids (was sort of hoping spouse would man up because I was barely holding it together, and I turn into mommy-monster when pushed, and I had asked him to help me with kids) -- I wanted everybody to be decent humans and enjoy the day, but I didn't want to demand to be given special treatment just because it was Mother's Day. Thats what gets me about your post, @litw. Self awareness, personal responsibility -- it's not that difficult. Could not your wife ask for some space, acknowledge her issues, and be reasonably decent to you? |

OK, birthday party for December-born ILIASMers! Want to just book a couple of suites at a resort? I liked the Bahamas when I went before...that's a perfect place for December birthdays! My birthday is at the end of December. Every year since I was a kid, my birthday got overshadowed by Christmas. Then when I became an adult, I now have a niece born on my birthday and a mother in law who's birthday is the next day. I think I would have to go someplace like the bahamas in order to feel special on my birthday ... lol |

OK, birthday party for December-born ILIASMers! Want to just book a couple of suites at a resort? I liked the Bahamas when I went before...that's a perfect place for December birthdays! I was thinking Northern Minnesota. So no one would have to leave the rooms.  |

I had a terrible weekend. Wife was in full on B**** mode all day Saturday and most of Sunday. Everything I said was interpreted in the most negative way possible, so I spent most of the weekend avoiding her. I am actually glad to be back at work. Its partly the time of year. Her birthday is next week, and every year at this time her self esteem takes a nosedive, and as a result, she reads negative/hurtful intent into everything I say. Since I have only ever been supportive to her around her birthday, this has to be some fallout from her first marriage (her first husband was/is the very definition of A**hole) I just wish I didn't have to feel the consequences of his actions. This will be a hell week for me ... wish me luck. So very sorry you had such an awful weekend. It can be a struggle maintaining any kind of happiness on weekends while in an SM, don't need to have crap like this added to the stress. Hope today has been better and this week goes well. |

Since I have only ever been supportive to her around her birthday... On the birthday topic, you being supportive around her birthday: I despise my birthday, have all my life. No special reason. Everyone that knows me well understands the best way to treat me on my birthday, to please say nothing. I don't fly off the handle when someone mentions it, but I would prefer it if they did not. There are a couple friends who will say “I haven't forgotten, so have a great day.” This works perfectly. Maybe she feels the same as me, and this is what she would like? |

Tell me again 1) where do I find a man who will go all out for me... and 2) what do I have to do, how do I have to change, to be the woman who gets all this caretaking...instead of being the woman I am, the woman who just assumes she'll have to do it herself? Whoa whoa, since when do you have to change to find someone to treat you right? What's wrong with the charming woman we have known all this time? Whoaaaaa |

@litw I feel horrible for you. I just have no words when someone acts like your w did. We cannot control the aging process, but OMG we can certainly wake up HAPPY to be alive for another year! Sheesh. Grumble, grumble...dang harpy fishwives/fish-husbands. Now, I'm ticked off. *Stomps out to find coffee Hey - as long as you're going for a coffee run....
