So, my friend has gone out to a family celebration tonight. I was invited, but wanted her to have family time, so declined the invitation. She needed to take the car that I've been driving during my stay (it's her mom's), so she gave me her jeep. I've never driven a Jeep before. I can hardly climb up into the seat, and it feels like I'm driving a tank. It's now parked on an angle while I'm having dinner at Applebee's.
The reason I'm telling you this is to keep my mind from wandering to places I don't want it to go while I wait for my meal. I'm back on our home ground. Everywhere I go, I went with my husband, and at one point, I thought I'd just run out of the restaurant because I couldn't bear it. The thought of driving the "tank" again kept me seated, so I thought...write to my friends here. So here I am.
Thanks guys. Even if no one reads it, writing it is keeping my mind occupied, and keeping me sane.
On a different note, I've got something else to tell, but my meal has arrived. Another time.
Cheers.

Car story for you Sister CarisThe remote on my Ford wagon failed a while back. People were telling me that it would cost heaps to get another one and get it tuned in etc. Like around $800. So I have been just using the key - rather inconvenient. Anyway, I saw on the net this Coy selling remotes for $20. I thought, well this is most likely a rip off but for $20 why not ? It turned up on Friday. Instructions - "Get in car, shut door, turn ignition on to first click, then press the rear demister button on the dashboard 3 times" "Ha ha, very funny" I thought and tried it. Nothing. Checked whether it had a battery - it did. Tried it again. It worked !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was quite astonished.

Caris, maybe you will get used to the jeep. Maybe it will bring out a new side of you. I am trying to picture you out doing mud running.

You know, I'm also reminded of one of my favourite scenes in "War of the Roses" where the wife gets this enormous truck/pick-up and he's sitting in his little classic sports car. She says over the truck's loud speaker, "Get out of the car hun", ready to trash the sports car. Wow I so wanted a gigantic truck after watching that! Lol

On the front windshield were large letters stating----JEEP HAIR DON'T CARE, I really liked her attitude.

We had a 1970 Cadillac Eldorado in the shop. It Handled liked a house. You needed to start a turn 3 blocks away. There was literally a dance floor in the trunk (along with 3 homeless people)
Simply trying to move it across the lot cause me to get arrested for "promoting prostitution "
True story.

Caris, I'm not so sure, by the sounds of it,you have the makings of a great Jeep driver, parking 'anywhere, anyhow' its the ethos of any large off-road driver, wrestling with the straight lines thrown at a driver designed to be driving across a field, or up a mountain. Urban life is far too organised, they even paint lines in car parks ! And if someone complains, just shout 'well you should try parking this thing', shrug your shoulders and move on. And wewbwb, an Eldorado. A device that should be forgotten, 8.2 liters and front wheel drive, whose idea was that I thought the world had conveniently decided to ignore them, until 'the stabbin wagon' in ghosts of girlfriends past. Best thing to do with one, as in the film, drive it through a wood and try to get it in the nearest lake. lol

I know this was Saturday so I am late to the post -- hope you had a good weekend. It was always my dream to have a bright red jeep with sheepskin seat covers - we explored that possibility lately, but the practicality of it just aren't there for us right now. Hope you at least (even secretly) had a LITTLE fun driving that big tank! I feel for you being on your home turf with all the memories. Sending love, peace and strength ~~~~~~~~~

Caris, I understand how difficult it can be to drive a larger vehicle than a person is used to. My daughter thought she would not be able to learn to drive the Chevy pickup I got her, but after about 3 weeks, she could park it like a pro.
