Today, it's hitting me that I'm surrounded by "him." I had to sit on the steps to write this on the phone he bought me. My handbag is a Christmas present from him. I am heading to my car that he bought for me, and right now I'm not sure I can drive it because of the emotion I feel. My furniture, my laptop, my Alexa, my iPad all came from him. What a hard worker and provider he was. Yes, there was much misery for me, but I now see (and only want to see) the positive. Some of my strength to deal with his loss comes from the memory of his strength when he dealt with loss and suffering. No matter how much he hurt, he completed the "mission." with grit and professionalism. Looking back on our marriage of 25-years, I see that just about everything he did (apart from the negative stuff) was for us, his family. He has left a lasting legacy, not only for us, but his community and country that bear the benifits of his presence there. People are now enjoying what he helped create for them. I miss him. I will be strong as he was strong, even through the pain, and the tears fall.

Caris, I know you're in pain. I can't really say anything much, except that you are having a perfectly normal reaction to a major loss. But please - try to believe that what you are going through now is temporary. You don't have to feel this way forever.

I'm so sorry for your loss Caris. There are really no words available to make this easier, but, time is rather amazing. Both that and our own resilience. My heart goes out to you.
