T minus 10 days till the move. Took my Kitchen Aid over to the new place so the symbolic centre of my kitchen is gone from this house I have occupied for 15 years. My heart went a long time ago. Endings are hard but out of the sadness comes new beginnings. Things are progressing well with my friend Frank. He has helped me to move 25 boxes of books up to the second floor of my new home. Actually he did everything I just stood there filled with gratitude.  Ex is out of the country till next weekend. I should be all but gone then. |

Thankyou to all the kind wishes and ongoing support. I am more excited than fearful. Its going to be strange living on my own after 29 years married but it sure feels good making my own decisions and being accountable to no one but myself.

I used to feel I was like Brooks from the movie Shawshank Redemption (a fucking awesome movie). After spending decades in prison, he became "institutionalized" and eventually hung himself after finally being released (relax, this is just an analogy...no intervention required). I think that the difference between Brooks and I is that I am not accepting being shaped by my prison / marriage. I'm more like Andy and actively planning my escape. Right now it sometimes feels like I'm crawling through that mile long sewer pipe, but at the end of that pipe, I will be standing in the rain, arms outstretched to the heavens...free. I suspect very shortly, we will see you standing in the rain, arms raised towards the heavens...and then off to work on your sailboat on the Pacific coast (or whatever your dreams are). |
