For the last month, I've been watching the Southwest Florida Eagle Cam when I can. Cameras mounted near a bald eagle nest stream their activities, it's compelling to watch - the eaglet that hatched a month ago is half grown already! Moderators on the site answer all kinds of questions about eagles. A couple of days ago, the cameras were tracking the eagle parents at a pond near the nest, they were just hanging out and then suddenly they were mating. Woot! Eagle sex! Here's some of the site Q & A:
Just to be clear - the femaie being 'receptive' in that context refers to fertility, not willingness. Even in non-human nature, sex = bonding and it's important.

There was recently a viral video of a macaque humping a forest deer......that is how much we mammals are WIRED to procreate!

I watched turtles going at it on you tube. It looked aggressive. I thought they would take it nice and slow.

The eagles get right after it - not much foreplay! Still, even new eagle parents make time for date night.
