Been debating this one. Normally, I stay at home with the wife and kid. But the kid is now 14 and beginning to resent my wife not wanting to go anywhere.
Going out drinking alone is not an option. Gave up drinking 22 years ago. But there is an AA dance at a church where I could bring my son. I am debating whether to bring him or not.
Anyway, Kacey Musgraves asks the question better than I do. At least, she looks better than I do asking:

Not sure what I am going to do. I've been invited by a girlfriend to come to her party but it's about 90 minutes away and staying over is not an option....

I'm not one to go out on NYE. Too dangerous to be out driving and I'm not a drinker and don't like clubs or big parties. (Gee, don't I sound FUN? I promise I am, in my own way.)
In the past, H and I have spent it with local friends or neighbors or just stayed home and watched the ball drop with the kids. That was OK so long as I tiptoed around my Hs drinking personality, which is unpredictable. Last year, he got ugly with the kids and it ruined NYE, mostly for my son. I'm anxious to avoid a repeat so I'm sending H and the kids 3 hours away to be with the grandparents (his side) on NYE. If Hs dad can't keep him in line, no one can.
To answer the question of what I'll be doing? I'll probably exercise hard that day and then take a hot bath at night and go to bed early. And it will be heavenly!

NYE will be at a mates place, probably about 20 people, I will probably get hammered, talk bullshit, and have a few laughs.
Best of all, this will mark the end of fucken Xmas, and I will have survived it.

Traditionally, fuck face likes us to stay home because he's a twat.
This year I'm taking the kids to a party at my sisters because he's working 8-8 ha ha ha ha. I might not even tell him!
Ooo am I coming across a bit bitter?
I'm feeling a bit rebellious at the moment.

Yeah, too many drunks out on "amateur night." Not like most nights when you still have the drunks out, but they are "professionals" at it.

We will probably have some drinks and then create improvised explosive devices. Basically, purchase commercial grade fireworks, cut them apart, and create something bigger and better.
Blew up a port-o-potty a few years back. Workers came out the next day and they just hauled it away. It brought a tear of joy to my eye.

I'm going to a local NYE block party. They will be dropping a giant crab pot at midnight.

Going to bed early. It's practically become a tradition, decades of living with a refuser, has trained me well.
Next year? Hopefully a different kind of "Fireworks" will be blasting at midnight!

I have a phobia about crowds. And yes, as a mechanic/body guy I see the damage. So I'll most likely stay home or local. Shame really. My friends in NYC have a great view of the square. But the traffic... fugedaboutit.

2:38 into the new year. Feels exactly like the one before.
Cooked a smoked fish lasagna and opened a bottle of red (still 3/4 full)
Wife went to bed early, I stayed up and read a great short story.
Listening to Ella sing "stormy weather" made me a little sad ....
Anyway, managed to avoid the drunken bacchanalia and the drunk drivers ;-)

I enjoyed 8 beers, lots of good food, and mediocre company, which is admittedly better than some alternatives. Hopefully my last year of Living in a SM too.
