Dearly beloved, We are gathered here today to get through this thing called life... R.I.P Purple One. I'm a mess right now, because Prince is the soundtrack of my youth and formative years. www.tmz.com/2016/04/21/prince-dead-at-57/

I'm pretty upset.
This year, 2016, has fucking sucked so far.
So many losses.

I am a metal head. From way back. But for some reason, with all the losses we have had of musical and entertainment genius, including lemmy(motorhead) and Bowie, this loss has really affected me. It was truly unexpected, and he has had influence in my life through his music, movies, and others that he has helped rise to fame as well. He was the genius that was there during our coming of age. He reached all the people of my generation and the next through us, and the generation before us through us. (I remember my parents being unthrilled of my sisters love and adoration for him) And he was real, little to no scandal, didnt go crazy like some, didnt piss on teenagers like others, etc., and (as far as we know) limited drug use. It seems that no matter what race, religion, political view, or anything that normally separates us, we all came together and added our own tribute, memories, and in come cases, tears to mourn. (Even mom posted an R.I.P message on FB)

I'm a metalhead, too. Except, Mustaine, who I've always wanted to throat punch and Norwegian Death Metal, because it's a teensy bit too murderous rampagey for me.
But, Prince was a healthy man. No one combined rock, funk, pop and his own style so well. Zakk Wylde had a really cool tribute on his Instagram and so did so many hard rock musicians.
I'm at a complete loss, too, MT.

Prince's "1999" tour concert was the first concert I ever attended.
He was a genius.

As a fellow Musician, the passing of Prince was a double hammer blow after the death of David Bowie. Prince had the ability to fuse Gospel, Soul. Tamla Motown, P-Funk,Rock, Jazz and Hip Hop in a way that no one else ever could. As a multi instrumentalist he had a vision of the finished composition that beggared belief. I, along with many of my friends will be breaking out our instruments and playing Prince songs to the small hours.ad raising a glass to a fallen comrade .
