I used to fantasize about just getting in my car, getting on the highway and leaving because I was so unhappy. I don't think like that anymore. Me too! I'd have to take my child, too!

I didn't realize you were in my (red)neck of the woods. ;-) Ooh, another resident of the Old North State? I grew up in NASCAR City- can tell you some stories about some of the old drivers. Now living in Engineer and Scientist Central. And @ggold, there is a lot to be said for Southern Hospitality. Just saying. Yes, sir! Totally agree about Southern Hospitality!

OK, this is a little dark... but it is the truth: When I'm particularly down, I sometime fantasize that a week after I send my youngest off to college, I get hit by a bus. You can tell I'm REALLY down when that thought actually makes me happy because of the sense of relief I feel at the thought. Sorry, I won't leave you with THAT desperate of a thought. I also fantasize about a post-divorce road trip. Traveling all over the US, seeing the sights in various cities, and offering to drop by on my various ILIASM friends wherever they live. I'll try to focus on that next time I'm down!

You know what divorce gives me a taste of being an empty nester because when the kids are with their dad I'm a free lady!! Woohoo!! Traveling, road tripping, and visiting friends sounds like a very nice thing to look forward to.

A long while back, probably over a year now, I started thinking in a quiet corner in the back of my mind what I would do if this marriage didn't work out. Lots of trips were thought out, lots of contingencies for how to make livings thought through, and people to reconnect with and visit were remembered.
They're still there, but that quiet corner has become louder and larger.

(Yea that crossed my mind a few times)

(Yea that crossed my mind a few times) Virgin Islands, actually- have a friend who works in utilities there Virgin Islands work. Dive instructors get paid to do exactly what the tourists pay stupid money to do. And they have just as much fun. How many people do you know that book a Caribbean vacation so they can go down there and fix power lines? Just sayin' Lol

Plus I love the problem solving aspect, and she's traveling all over the Caribbean. And it's pretty much ground zero for what I really want to do. Well, there or Iceland.

And have money saved for my own boat.
