Am back from vacation...Thank God!

My friend advised me about a month ago to cancel my family vacation due to my marital situation. She said I didn't need the added stress. I told her that I was going through with it for the kids.
Well, I got through it. It was unpleasant. I tried to get into it for the kids and did the best I could. My 16 year old niece was with us and she was like our buffer. She loves my husband. He is a father figure to her. Her own father is a deadbeat dad. My sister recently divorced him after 23 years of an emotionally abusive marriage.
My husband and I were definitely distant. Tension was in the air. I have a special needs son and he had some issues. My 4 year old daughter had many tantrums.
The hotel was nice, weather was perfect, and the ocean water warm (although filled with nasty seaweed for a couple of days). I was able to read half of The Girl on the Train (great so far) and I had so much fun in the water-the most fun I have had in years!! (For about 19 years, I was allergic to ocean water! I would break out in itchy hives on my back and stomach!! It began in 1994 when I was in Bermuda. I haven't been able to swim in any salt water until about 3 years ago!!!)
So, it wasn't all bad. Was it a peaceful vacation? No. I am glad to be home and to get the kids back on schedule. School begins in a few weeks for my kids and me. I am actually looking forward to it. I need to get back to work, to get my mind off of continuously thinking about my marriage, and to socialize with my colleagues again. This will be a huge help.
