I think EP as a whole (the entire site) was a lot more vulgar, crude and nasty than this board. Yes, we talk about sex here. But I think the biggest difference is that there are no kids here. Adults can get crude and vulgar, but they tend to do it in a more sophisticated way. Also, people come here for help and advice on a serious problem - which, because it's about sex, can be hard to talk about. If you want the really weird stuff, and you don't mind dealing with stupid people - Similar Worlds has plenty of both weirdness and stupidity. Adult babies....diapers...Okaaaay, then! Oh! The adult-wearing-and-weeing-in-their-diaper crew. I have said it before, and I will say it again, I miss those fools. Entertaining for sure! I will say, we have (at times) gotten a little raunchy. But! I never feel icky here and appreciate (but sometimes miss) not having to "school" drive-bys and trolls. I avoid the racier threads now when I don't feel up for it. I also have avoided the word association ones in the last couple of months. Just a personal preference. It takes me no time at all to scroll down. I do remember one member here, after a lengthy hiatus, coming back to what can only be described as the "red" post, she was horrified, deleted her account and came back much later. It was a little over the top, and I cheerfully submitted my preferences in that thread, but in hindsight, it was kind of gross. Oh well, I do just feel so at home with all of you - even the ones I may not agree with on the regular. I do think though, what Modhatter points out should be underlined - and they didn't say it like this, so I want to clarify my take-away: We all come from so many different backgrounds. This is good and a challenge when using the written word. I think that understanding that we all do not think alike (thank God, it would be incredibly boring if we did) and we all do not communicate the same way, is imperative! Our meanings can get misconstrued very easily, and I challenge the membership to not take things personally until you have read a comment a couple of times and maybe even slept on it. I disagree vehemently with some from time to time. But I also accept that their world view is different from my own and were we to sit face-to-face discussing the same topic, it would not come off like it can when we are writing and reading. Body language and delivery are everything. Anyway, two cents. Two shillings (?) two whatever you use.

Body language and delivery are everything. True. This is the Internet, and thick skin is advised. Even though the citizens of ILIASM are pussycats compared to what you would encounter elsewhere, they will not all share your view. Appreciate that strong 'opposing' views can be healthy, without receiving them as hostile. They can force us to re-assess our perspective, which might be long overdue. (How many of us arrived believing "Everything's great except the sex"?) And very few folks here are English majors, so the opportunity for something to come across poorly in writing is very high, especially lacking tone of voice and body language. Give benefit of the doubt and don't assume malicious intent. Finally, bear in mind that this is a global forum, and English is not the native tongue for some of the writers. I'm personally humbled by this, since I couldn't have a conversation in another language, let alone be eloquent.

First, thank you ModHatter for an excellent post. (FYI: the mods discussed this before it was posted, and we all supported the sentiment; but MH expressed it perfectly.) Just to let you know: - This thread was originally released as a site-wide "announcement". (An "announcement" is present at the top of every board, and is shown as a folder with a blue "!")
- Soon I will remove the announcement status, but the message will remain in the "Welcome" board.
- You may continue to refer to it and comment there. Also: refer others to it there, as needed.
Thank you all who have contributed to this thread.

Both your expression and your interpretation are key elements to language and communication in general. Someone else may see things differently than you do. If so, and they offered a point of view other than yours, you should consider it with an open mind. If it is not an attack on you personally, do your best to accept that they are entitled to their opinion. If it is a personal attack, by all means you should respond and defend yourself. But know the difference please. If all others thought exactly the same as you did, and saw only your viewpoint, how could you gain any help from this site? A couple years ago I returned from Upper Peninsula, asked a question on a Michigan hunting and fishing forum. Why did I work these five lakes for a week, sunrise to sunset, and did not catch a single northern pike. One guy let me have it, and ribbed me that all five were strictly trout. I did not cry myself to sleep that night.
