True but I am in a 22 year marriage with 3 children and despite a shitty sex life, I still love my wife and my children very much. A divorce would likely cost me seven figures. So, I stay away from the temptation of the fine young things. Make no mistake. If I end up divorced I will definitely be checking out all the new fangled dating technology. However I will exhaust all efforts at saving my marriage first. Plus, these friends of hers may talk. It would get back to your assistant, your assistant gets pissed because you didn't put the moves on HER. Next thing you know, your assistant pulls an Alex Forrest and your daughter's pet rabbit is in a stock pot on your stove top.

My friends, I humbly thank you for all your kindness and support. It meant so much to me. I'm sad to say, however, I was not selected for this new role. The wind got knocked out of my sails, and I wasn't walking as tall and proud as I have been. But it's time to pick myself up, dust myself off and carry on.
I have a meeting scheduled with the hiring manager the week after next for feedback. Swell. That may help me grow. But when the position goes to the person who's lips have been firmly planted on the hiring manager's anal sphincter for over a year ... that's a tough pill to swallow.
Sometimes I think the only way to move up, the only way I'm going to be taken seriously, is to move on. I want to stay with the company, but I'm considering one of two directions: leave the company and stay local (if a good opportunity presents itself) Or Stay with the company and expand my search nationwide, focusing on the east coast.
My boss knows I'm looking. And my husband is on board with whatever I decide. He's been incredibly supportive, a big improvement from years past.

Andie, so sorry to hear this news. I don't blame you for looking for other job opportunities. Take care, and good luck!

And you have taken it brilliantly. You have a great attitude, you are clever and kind and oh so bloody sharp!! You will find something so much better. Something fabulous. Go nationwide. Take an adventure lots of love xxx

@andie, I'm sorry to hear that. It's an unfortunate truism that real career progress doesn't happen within one company. If you're willing to relocate, you probably do improve your odds within the same company, but that's a pretty huge life change for a job.

An adventure. Thanks eternaloptimism. I've never been shy about packing up and leaving. I lived in my hometown for 35 years. Then I met him, and moved 1200 miles. Five years later, his promotion almost tripled his salary, but required a move to Chicago. I'm not afraid of adventure. Fuck it. I'm not even afraid of failure anymore. DryCreek it would be a huge deal making a move like this. I love your insight. I'm not sure what will happen. You know what? Fuck it. I'm not even afraid of the unknown anymore.

It sucks that "legal nepotism" won out. I'm glad to hear H is supportive of whatever you choose to do. I believe I'd vote nationwide, but I also suspect that's influenced by my not having a mate - so whatever that's worth may not be much.

Sorry to hear about not getting the job, @andie, but you did get an interview. That could mean another job down the road, maybe better than the one that you interviewed for this time. But if this company favors ass kissing over actual performance and job fit, I would get my resume polished and out there. Move if you want, but I'm sure something is there for you in Chicago. Maybe you can get a better job and hire Mr. Silver Fox to work for you!
