Sunday is the fifteenth anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center, Pentagon, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. My New York skyline was forever altered that day. I still cannot bring myself to visit the memorial. I lost three friends that day: one police officer, one security guard, who stayed at his post, and one office worker. I was also acquainted with several first responders who died afterwards helping with the clean up. Locally, every department in the neighboring seven towns sent fire, EMS, and police officers. This was mostly on a volunteer basis as they do not have dedicated fire or EMS personnel. My friend the office worker, was an administrative assistant, whom I knew through her husband (Mustang Boy.) They had a fight the night before. They never made up. It was stupid and wasn't important: just a normal marriage disagreement about things. They had time to work it out. Except they didn't. His last words to his wife were "we'll talk about this later." I believe Mustang Boy would have committed suicide if it weren't for their children. He continues therapy to this day. Please take a moment and show gratitude to the people you care about. Say, "thank you for being my friend." Call your parents and family. Forgive those you can. Tell someone you love them and you are glad they are in your life. Reach out to that friend you haven't spoken to in a while and say hello. You may not get to talk to them later. (I want to thank the person who helped me edit my scattered and rambling thoughts into a readable post)

God reading that brought tears to my eyes. Incredibly emotional. We all have one life and should do whatever we can to make it happy. Hugs

I know we're not close anymore, but you were on my mind on 9/11, wewbwb. Surrounding you in warm, healing light, energy and love. Hugs

The 9/11 anniversary is hours away. I thought I'd revive this thread if anyone wants to share their memories of the day, and how it has changed or impacted you.

I lived in the U.S. at the time
Smoked half a pack of cigarettes that day. Understandable except for the fact that I dont smoke.

I was in my senior year of high school sitting in English Class. Our Social Studies teacher burst in the door and told us to turn on the TV. Classes were cancelled the rest of the afternoon and we all watched in stunned silence. It was a day that changed our country forever and none of us who remember it will ever be the same.

I was working and my child was 5 years old at the time. We lived near Washington D.C. It was a scary time. I remember sitting in front of the TV bawling while watching the South Tower collapse. I still choke up after all these years! God Bless the USA!

I was between jobs and waiting for an offer letter to be sent that day from my new employer... based in lower Manhattan. That, of course, became irrelevant. We turned on the news while getting ready that morning (as was our routine) and were glued to it all day.
The same day, before they shutdown US airspace, a private pilot student was taking his solo qualifying flight from the airport near my house. Apparently he had radio trouble, and instead of changing his transponder beacon to the “radio failure” code (7600), he set it to the “hijack” code (7500).
Fighter jets were scrambled and circled my house with afterburners; it was deafening, even indoors, and we had no idea WTF was happening - just that shit was going down nearby. If you saw the movie Red Dawn as a kid, you can imagine the scenarios that ran through my head (Russians invade mid-America).
I flew into NYC a month later... they day after another airliner crashed into an NYC neighborhood on takeoff, spawning much speculation that it was another terror attack exactly a month later. The world was a much scarier place than it’d been a couple months before.
ETA: I learned that they charge to enter the memorial; that’s disrespectful in my opinion. It’s not an attraction.

I was home with my mom. She was recovering from a stroke (her second within six months) and we were glued to the tv. Mid-morning, I went to my neighbor's house. She has a son who lives in Brooklyn, and at the time, worked in lower Manhattan. Naturally she was terrified even though he didn't work in the financial district. We invited her over so she wouldn't be alone. She brought her phone in case he called her. Lines were jammed into the evening, if I remember right. We made lunch but no one ate since we had become absolutely nauseated. We also went through a lot of Kleenex. My neighbor's son finally called around 6:30. He was fine. Exhausted, emotionally drained, soot-covered. But otherwise ok. It's a difficult day, especially for wewbwb. Thinking of you, my friend, on a day of tremendous loss.

My condolences on your loss of friends. May they Rest In Peace.
I didn’t lose anyone, but that terrible event gave me nightmares for 3-weeks. We should never forget. 🙏
