I think it's probably a case of "I'm sorry your marriage was so shit" rather than aorry you're divorcing.
Which is fair enough really!
But it's probably a semantic argument anyway.
Although i guess from a religious perspective then folk maybe sorry about the divorce...

People know divorce is a shit experience even if the marriage was worse! But I did have people say to me "I usually say 'Sorry', but in your case - congratulations." :-)
