I have just finished another book by Mark Manson .... "Everything Is F*cked" .... something of a follow up to another book of his titled "The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A F*ck".
I'd recommend it to the membership as worth reading.
This book is not as relationship based (unlike "The Subtle Art ....) but explores the two sides of our brain where the "Feeling Brain" and the "Thinking Brain" clash and work against each other, and how they can be harnessed to work complementary to each other. It proposes that it is the "Feeling Brain" that makes most of our choices even if the "Thinking Brain" reasons that the choice being made is not in your longer term best interests. And from that angle, the book IS applicable to relationships (as well as numerous other aspects of life).
Disclaimer I am a big fan of this Mark Manson bloke, have been for a while, so my judgement is a bit biased in endorsing this book as being worth your while in reading.

I am reading this book currently and getting so much out of it! Too funny that you brought it up as it made me think of you.

My friend, this is more true than you realize.
I once lost a case because I was the better lawyer.
The defense attorney was so bad that the jury felt sorry for the defendant for having such a poor lawyer. After the trial, we were talking to the jury, and one of the jurors told the defense attorney that she would have fired him right in the middle of trial.

This probably makes the exact point Brother flashjohn . The jury based their verdict with their collective 'feeling brain' ignoring the judgement of their collective 'thinking brain'.

Yep, this is very true. I had to become aware that I sometimes had to not try as hard as I could so that wouldn't happen again.
