My sympathies go out to those who face not only the grief of being in an ILIASM shithole PLUS having personal religious beliefs that add another level of complexity to an already complex situation.
Being of a secular nature and not religious, heathens like me don't have that additional burden and almost certainly don't realise just how difficult this might all be to persons of genuine faith. I don't think people like me can truly understand that particular dilemma.
This linked article by "Elizabeth Klein" seems to take a reasoned view to the 'divorce for the faithful' issue.
Hopefully it might help those members of a religious persuasion.

Very sane and accurate interpretation of scripture. People sometimes use God and the Bible as sticks to beat themselves and others with. Totally not the intention of religion, but ironically the more religious someone gets, sometimes the more judgmental and closed-minded they become. I like my faith to be super open-minded. There are as many ways to God as there are people on the planet.
Thanks for posting GC!

I completely agree with @elle . If God wanted us all to be the same we would be. The diversity present in existent is the best example of Godliness in my opinion.

"Well what did you expect God hates divorce. (by the way that's adding insult to injury. That's called being mean. That's called the opposite of showing grace and empathy. If that's all you have to say to someone in my position as a divorced woman (OR MAN- which would have fit in nicely with this entire article!) please say nothing. This was one of my favorite part of the article!
I had a pastor tell me " sorry what your going through man, but...we can't condone divorce". Then he literally whispers to me, "hey man, I've been divorced, back when I was 25."
Some people just don't get it. They don't understand the double standards that they project on people. They are too concerned with their image, instead they miss a great opportunity to reach out to others who desperately need it. Then show them that it is okay to not be taken advantage of, and to end/leave a toxic marriage.
Fortunately (in my case) the overwhelming majority of the people at church ( the congregation, the true body of the church) agree with my ,decision and actions for divorce, and are there for support!

My second favorite part of this article was "Lists of seven things that God hates" My ex fits 6 of those, the 7th one was half way there.
A good yardstick to measure by, no matter if you are a believer. Truths and good advice are just that.

I wonder how god feels about us atheists.....
Religion is a way to control people. Controlling sex and sexuality is probably the most effective.

I wonder how god feels about us atheists..... Religion is a way to control people. Controlling sex and sexuality is probably the most effective. I am going to try and answer that, and I am going to get it wrong. God hates sin but loves the sinner. Believing, not believing, faith, trust? The Bible addresses that often. I don't like religion. And yes religion can be a very controlling tool. Jesus spoke down to the religious crowd and put them in there place. I do love God and I find God's word as a reliable source to build upon. There is so much truth and comfort in it . I'll admit parts of it are beyond my comprehension, then again it's good to be growing and always learning, like going THROUGH a SM. I have a gay friend who is turned off by religion, but he is open to the advice and teachings from the Bible. I find that when I give someone advice from the Bible, but don't quote the Bible they like it. They tend to agree with it and accept it better. One time I was reading a lot of Ben Franklin Quotes. I liked it! I thought " what an intelligent man, such wisdom! Then I realized " oh, these are Bible sayings only a little easier to understand."

Thank you both csl and @lostsoul for proving the point made in this article about only selecting one piece of scripture, and ignoring the verses before and after it, Also ignoring the context it is written in. You are better off to say nothing. No wonder people are turned off by religion, it just becomes a power game.

Thanks, I did ask. "behold I come quickly". Rev 22:12 So many questions.... First, have you seen a doctor? That is a quote made by god, right? He needs the dr.

So many questions.... First, have you seen a doctor? That is a quote made by god, right? He needs the dr. Jesus, the Son of God, yes. But since the work erchomai in the Greek means to come from one place to another, or to make one's appearance, I'm not sure what your point is. After all, the text is "I come quickly", not "I cum quickly."
